Wink Sera Muun...

I see the whole emoticon thing as a way of transporting oneself and others with him or her into their own emotional plane, conveying emotions that words written with letters or with calligraphs could do as well, but not as succinctly...

...Sort of like being temporarily invited into one's own mental animé universe, where everyone gets sweatdrops when they get freaked out, veins bulge out of their heads and flames surround them when angry, and they sport Japanese flag-decorated fans when something cool happens...

...Now, if only I could sport ten-second-long attack sequences with corny animé background music to kick the ass of some youma du jour, and only if I could revert to SD-size to hit my oldest brother in the head when he ticks me off...

...Of course, this means that everyone nearby will have to suffer through thirty-second-long transformation sequences, seeing the same dramatic shot at freeze-frame repeated three times (sometimes from DIFFERENT ANGLES!), suffer through melodramatic J-pop and overdone OP and ED animation; there will be a corny-as-hell hamming-it-away villain and annoying sidekicks, POSSIBLE fanservice, split screens (if I decide to go retro enough); my last battle fight sequence will smack of Rocky ("get my ass kicked for 7/8 of the battle before I totally whoop the OTHER GUY'S ASS!" stuff), I'll probably end up dramatically briefly naked in a spirtual moment of clarity/epiphany/whathaveyou likely in some other plane of reality (perhaps that of my own mind/"soul" or something); but then, I'll get some new armor/weapon/superpower/whatever and TOTALLY KICK ASS AND KILL/DEFEAT THE VILLAIN WITH ONE FRICKEN HIT and watch him/her crumble away and take two minutes to die a painful (and likely well-deserved) death, so it'd all be balanced out! WHOO-HOO!

And then, everyone will love me, 'cause I rule -- the ending credits will be all unique, and everyone will want a sequel, but the writers and animators won't likely bite the bait for at least five, ten or twenty years after cancellation. <--- sorry, couldn't resist

Yeah, so that's the thing! Everyone wants to be Ai no Senshi! Yup, yup!

I have too much time on my hands...and I've watched TOO much Ronin Warriors and Sailor Moon back in middle school. <---i did it again...

Porky (Being All-Too-Clever) Pine

It's not only a little ironic

Howard is only angry about others, using smilies in a fantasyful, creative way.

when it comes to the finer points (like irony or sarcasm) we non-English speakers are often left guessing and ultimately misunderstanding the other persons intentions. Especially since many native English speakers write like they speak.

I shouldn't have to point this out, but the irony was intentional.

So is Terry's. But more subtle.

I also wish there were more smilies for IIDB. IMDb has more, and they barely talk about more than movies. They would, of course, because they're a DATABASE, but I just wish there was a  face. It'd be nice.

People have been successfully using written communications for thousands of years without the aid of smilies. If you can write intelligibly you don’t need them.
Bah, people wrote for centuries on clay tablets, yet I prefer the internet.

I use smilies sparingly, usually more as an axclamation point than anything. I find using a half dozen exclamation points much more annoying myself, but people will be people, and I can't change it.

Myself, I prefer emotes of physical actions. /shrug

It adds color to language, at least in my opinion. /quirky smile

But by far, the worst to me...

You do not loose your car keys, you LOSE them.

I fucking hate that, and I don't know exactly why. But to pick at it wherever I encounter it, or every few years as the entire point to a thread seems to me to accomplish little except put others on the defensive.

OMG OMG :banghead: I HATE that. Hate, hate, hate. Jesus H. Christ in a chicken basket. I feel like an asshole pointing it out, but the loose/lose thing makes me want to smoke crack. Even otherwise literate, articulate people fuck this up, I have no idea why.

Maybe I should start a thread about it. I'm willing to take the flak.
