OK........I borrowed this from my other thread but I thought it fits into this Forum nicely too..........So....................
I maintain that evolution based atheism is a religion... ....…a belief system based on theory, mixed some very debatable answers and assumptions, that requires a significant amount of faith. Its easy to follow this religion…..it asks nothing of you…no commitment….no consequences, no promises….easy come-easy go. A great belief system…….if its indeed true……….. Some people are doing some “soul searching? on this exact topic these days. Take for example ,Anthony Flew, a fairly well-known atheist philosopher. This 81-year-old British professor of philosophy chose to become an atheist at the age of 15. He made a name for himself in the academic field with a paper published in 1950. In the 54 years that followed, he defended atheism as a teacher at the universities of Oxford, Aberdeen, Keele and Reading, and at many American and Canadian universities he visited, in debates, books, lecture halls and articles. In recent days, however, Flew has announced that he has abandoned his “faith? and now accepts that the universe was….(gasp)….CREATED! In recent times Flew participated in debates with scientists and philosophers who were proponents of creation, and exchanged ideas with them. A turning point in that process was a discussion organized by the Institute for Metascientific Research in Texas in May, 2003. Quote:
So......... Evolutionary atheism = Intelligence from non-intelligence?? As Flew stated..."I have been persuaded that it is simply out of the question that the first living matter evolved out of dead matter and then developed into an extraordinarily complicated creature." Makes sence to reason. Final Note:...I find it interisting that people these days are so willing to accept the idea of other intelligent life somewhere in the universe, but when you suggest that that life is so intelligent as to be our creator, they accuse you of religious fundamentalism. Cherrie O' for now.......... Proff. |

You should have read my response and the link to the Anthony Flew thread before rehashing this and making yourself look bad in the process.

Oh no, not the Flew thing. :banghead:
And what in god's (one of them) name is "evolution based atheism"? Evolution is not normative, not a religion, nor does it say anything about the existence or non-existence of a god. Atheism (not a religion, either) is the lack of theism and has no necessary connection to evolution. "Evolution based atheism" is a bit like saying "anti-evolution based Buddhism" - it just doesn't any sense. |

Don't mind Proff. He's our new resident plagiarist. His thread in EvC is locked because he keeps changing mod edits of his posts so he can preserve the illusion he is using his own work.

Proff, what is the purpose of this thread? And for a complete change, can you actually use proper grammatical structure for your sentences rather then long incomplete sentences connected by "....."?
