Default Pride is the downfall of man

Wisdom comes from humility. A man who listens before he speaks and sees the possibility he could be wrong has a far better chance of learning the truth than a person who delights simply in airing his opinions. A proud attorney who walks into a courtroom delighted with the intelligence of his strategy, greatly underestimates the opposing attorney's arguments and will surely be humbled. A proud general who goes into battle believing his strategy is superior greatly understimates the strategy of the opposing general and will surely be destroyed. Pride and arrogance lead to foolish actions. Humility leads to wisdom. That's why Jesus said "He who exhalts himself will be humbled and he who humbles himself will be exhalted."

Pride leads to rebellion, humility leads to submission. Those who think they know better than Jesus does will one day be shown just who is in control of the universe. As Jesus said, "Those who fall on the capstone will be broken to peices, but those upon whom it falls will be crushed." You can surely gamble with your soul that you know better than He does, but I guarantee you will be humbled. If you choose to believe your opinions over God's, then your pride rules you. If, however, you have the humility to realize that there is indeed a power higher than you, you will be exhalted. The choice is yours.

You posted the exact same thing in another thread and because you don't like us mean freethinkers tearing your claims apart you run off and start a new thread. Cowardly, why don't you try reading the replies we already provided before trying to start trolling for new ones?

Then since you assume a virtue of humility, will you admit that you could be wrong about Christianity? If not, then aren't you presenting us a double standard? "Yes, non-believers, have humility and admit that you might be mistaken. But to my fellow brethren, you know you're absolutely right -- don't for a minute think you might be wrong!!"

It's interesting you used this analogy. The attitudes of the lawyers is irrelevant. What matters is the quality of the evidence offered to the jury.

Agreed

A proud attorney who walks into a courtroom delighted with the intelligence of his strategy, greatly underestimates the opposing attorney's arguments and will surely be humbled. A proud general who goes into battle believing his strategy is superior greatly understimates the strategy of the opposing general and will surely be destroyed. Pride and arrogance lead to foolish actions.

Most of the greats- the great attorneys, the great generals, etc., all have a little bit of pride. It's a necessary evil to stay at the top of your game.

Humility leads to wisdom. That's why Jesus said "He who exhalts himself will be humbled and he who humbles himself will be exhalted."

Yawn. Lao Tzu said almost the same thing in the dao de jing hundreds of years earlier.

Pride leads to rebellion, humility leads to submission.

Disagree. Pride does not neccessarily lead to rebellion. A little pride is good. What you describe is hubris, which is fairly negative.

And secondly, why does everyone need to be submissive, especially to a god (supposing one who exists) who has shown himself to be cruel and authoritarian. Judging by U.S. standards, I think its time for a "regime change."

Those who think they know better than Jesus does will one day be shown just who is in control of the universe.

And you claim to know the will of Jesus? Isn't that a touch of pride?

Yes, I agree that Zeus and Mars are gonna be pissed.

[i]As Jesus said, "Those who fall on the capstone will be broken to peices, but those upon whom it falls will be crushed." [i/]

Ok. That made no sense at all.

You can surely gamble with your soul that you know better than He does, but I guarantee you will be humbled.

Wow. A threat and a thinly veiled pascal's wager. *yawn*

If you choose to believe your opinions over God's, then your pride rules you.

A) Yes, usually I believe my opinions over those of invisible entities.

B) If you claim to know the "opinions" of God, then your pride rules you.

If, however, you have the humility to realize that there is indeed a power higher than you, you will be exhalted.

How is that humility exactly?

The choice is yours.

I choo choo choose you pikachu...

I just posted that verse because I thought it was kinda funny.

I agree it's sometimes best to keep your mouth shut and listen, but I've learned at least as much from voicing my opinions and having them criticized. At some point, you have to speak.

Arrogance is problematic, but I don't grok the continued Christian harping about how "pride" is so bad. Controlled, pride in one's self is a good thing, IMO.

And, sometimes, to being stepped on. You gotta stand up for yourself every once in a while.

"Submission"? Why would I want to submit to anyone? Another thing Christians harp on; "submission is good". Bleah.

No one, right? That Jesus fellow, he's dead.

Sounds like you're proud of knowing that "fact". What was that you were saying about humility?

Quote:

So, your goal is to be "exalted"? Where's the humility in that?

Quote:
The choice is yours.
What choice? I lack belief in the God you speak of, therefore I lack belief in his opinions, and therefore cannot "choose" to believe in my opinions over God's.

And that's not "pride" speaking; it's recognizing reality.

Well if you guys want to justify your pride, then by all means do so. You can put down my posts (as if that could change the truth), argue against it and deny it, but I guarantee you will be humbled. Again, that's your choice. You will be held accountable for it.

Weltall, for Joyfilled the words are magic. Simply reciting them will magically transform us. You see Joyfilled thinks that (s)he is the first "true" Christian to ever preach to any of us. What Joyfilled doesn't know is that the EAC is already at work. All the evil gods of the ancient underworld have been called out to curse Joyfilled, destroy his/her life and send him/her off to hell for eternity. I guess god didn't tell Joyfilled to never mess with atheists.
