Unhappy I don't fear any gods; only their devout followers

So many times I hear the fundamentalist talk about how they would "lay down my life for God". Everyone knows about the events of 9-11-01 and the beliefs of the terrorists who were "doing the will of Allah".

The Jerry Falwell's, Pat Robertson's, Judge Roy Moore's and G.W.Bush's, et al, scare the crap out of me, because they have the numbers (voters) and they have the big $$$$$ behind organized 'armies of gawd" who will stop at nothing to force everyone to their knees and re-write our Constitution.

I think this song by Holly Near says it best:

Chorus

I ain't afraid of your yahweh
I ain't afraid of your Allah
I ain't afraid of your Jesus
I'm afraid of what you do
in the name of your God

I ain't afraid of your churches
I ain't afraid of your temples
I ain't afraid of your praying
I'm afraid of what you do
in the name of your God

Rise up to your higher power
FREE up from fear, it will devour you
Watch out for the ego of the hour
The ones who say they know it
Are the ones who will impose it on you

Rise up, and see a higher story
FREE up from the gods of war and glory
Watch out for the threats of purgatory
The spirit of the wind won't make
A killing off of sin and satan

There were several comments made today on several posts that made me think of Holly's song, and I wanted to share it here, with the hope that these same repliers might see themselves in the words.

Speaking as a polytheist who believe that Yahweh and Allah exist as non-supreme gods who influence human affairs:

Hmm. I'm kind of afraid of Allah. I don't think he likes the West.
But I think Yahweh and Descartes are quite capable of protecting us from him.

As for Yahweh, I don't think he's a danger to any of the Western societies. His policies in North America and Australia are more inconvenient than dangerous, and he has little influence at all in Europe.

As for South America, he flourishes there, and his rule is quite benevolent IMO. I'm telling you, I expect South America to experience a cultural golden age while the rest of the West goes down the tubes, and Yahweh will be partly to thank for this.

Interesting. I personally think that the US of America is the most Godless country on earth.
