Unhappy

It think it's hopeless. I don't think they can wrap their minds around the concept that atheism is only one aspect of a atheist's set of beliefs (or convictions, if one's not comfortable with the word "beliefs"). As an atheist you have to look for an external set of moral values, such as Humanism, Objectivism, or something as simple as Kant's Categorical Imperative.

Rest assured, that I am me.

I just made that very same point before reading your post, but thanks for the free license to plagiarise

One should read this complaint made by Koy and Gurder. {Insults deleted}

Unhappy Gynne Joynte

Well, I take exception to many of the characterizations made in this thread about {deleted for consistency} Julbon (a gentleman—a seriously radical, ultraconservative gentleman with whom I found it maddeningly impossible to discuss anything relating to politics or religion, and whose use of excessive punctuation might have caused permanent damage to my eyesight, sure—but in his own way a gentleman), yet agree it's long since the GJ was a particularly happy place to be. It was supposed to be a friendly bar where all the acrimony, bitterness and character assassination found at other boards could be set aside (I know because I founded the place), but now fares no better than ARN or II.

Which is why I've given up posting on BBs, though I haven't quite given up LURKing.

But I must say, you seem to be doing reasonably well over there, Plognark.

You're writing well, Plognark, but apparently Julbon wants to miss the point. I'm not quite sure how he's come his rationalization of equating your personal moral code to being no better than that of the Nazis. I think he's reading into your statements what he wants you to be saying.

I agree. He wants you to state explicitly that there is no comfort to be found in atheism and that it is impossible for an atheist to have a logically sound reason for morality.

His last posting bears that opinion out quite well....i'd personally rather discuss this with mb928; he seems the more rational of the two, but julbon has been (relatively*) polite and willing to listen, even if he is missing the points :banghead:

*Edited to add: by relatively I mean in comparison to other xian boards i've gotten into discussions on; for example, freedomsring.

Richiyaado, it's good to see you lurking, here.

If anyone of you wants to see julbon flip out, read this thread. So, julbon advertises for "liberals and atheists" on ARN. Leo [a Xian, not to be confused with leonard the troll(e)] starts a brief aside on what is liberalism and conservatism. That provoked this response from julbon:
Quote:
As an old member of ARN, let me say that here is a perfect example of why I quit.
I started this with the purpose of inviting people from here to come to my discussion forum where they might like to post once in a while. I specifically asked for liberals because liberals who are old enough to know about the past 50 years, much less the past 5,000 years are,for me anyway, hard to find. I started this thread to discuss MY BOARD and ONLY MY BOARD.
That was obvious to anyone who read my opening post.
I expected questions about the board!!!
I expected the other posts on this thread to be about MY BOARD. I hoped I could answer some of those questions and explain that we do not discuss ID at all, but politics, world events, including IRAQ, books, movies, humor, all the social issues (abortion, same/sex marriage, etc),
some science, and religion and more.
Instead, I get long-winded definitions of liberalism and conservatism from Leo, which did not belong on this thread at all. Instead of an apology, he posts again, again off-topic. Leo is one of many posters who ruin and destroy boards like this, that is why, if you want to avoid the Leos of the world, you can try my board. I invite all who come in good faith. If I have been too hard on leo, remember, I did not receive one question about my board, nor did any post except Leonard's
I believe Leo owes me an apology. Am I wrong???
Maybe I am. I would be interested in any responses if anyone cares to offer one.
Meanwhile, you are welcome toread our board by simply typing in the URL I listed and press "enter" on your machine. Thanks==Julbon

As I formed my last response the intent of this guy started to sink in, which led to my post becoming more and more hostile. His real intent is painfully obvious now, but i'm willing to give him a few more chances. He's on strike one before he becomes a real idiotic waste of my time. Three strikes and i'm off to something useful.
