Assume that avi is tanya (I always have, and neither persona has contradicted this.)
I'm not sure how a Greek expert can cut through this nonsense about all Therapeutae everywhere being related. Especially since Pete and avi/tanya have rejected all expert opinion on the matter so far. |

Time will tell.
If your faith in your religion of Philo, and in the integrity of Jubilees, stands that test. Then it will be clear that you are right in your assessments. But I have made it clear that I expect an event, a revelation that is going to dump what you are trusting in as being historical truth, into the trash heap forever. It all has to do with measuring by ancient measures. All about numbers, and what the dimensions signify. I am not pretending. I admit that I hold a vision and an -expectation. It is a geometrical construct composed of precise lines and of numbers. Because of the nature of that vision, I have more trust in it than in books. Those that are given to understand it, will. And those that aren't, won't. |

I live with it, and in it 1440 minutes a day, and 144000 every hundred.

I don't understand why this has to be so complicated. The question before is whether the group was Jewish. The answer is yes. And the issue of whether Shesh 'approves' of their Jewishness is immaterial to the discussion.

Given the description in De vita contemplativa, I'd see this cult to be just as sick and lunatic if they were called Christians. What name is stuck on them isn't going to make their cult lunacy any more attractive. You can call dog upchuck either 'puke' or 'vomit' but its still the same old thing. |

We can go through the Entire Text word by word. Josephus was a contemporary of Philo and the very supposed Therapeutae and wrote the History of the Jews and did NOT claim anywhere in all his books that the Therapeutae were a sect of Jews. He never mentioned them at all. Hippolytus in "Refutation of All Heresies" corroborated Josephus and claimed there were Three prinicipal Sects of the Jews--the Pharisees, the Saducees and the Essenes. Refutation of All Heresies 9 Quote:
Those are the facts. We have NO other reference to Philo's Therapeutae by any Jewish or non-Jewish writers of the 1st century. Effectively, all who claim that Philo's Therapetae were Jews have ZERO corroboration from antiquity. |
