In response to Bright Life who thinks that my posts are part of a game I play.

When I say that religion is a game we play it is not because I scoff at religion but because (in my opinion) it is a game we play with our entire being (this includes our soul) and is for keeps (has a lasting effect on us for many generations to come).

Let me try again. If there was anything real about religion it would be an end in itself but it is not and therefore it is a game. The Church makes up the rules of this game and sets out the boundary of the arena wherein salvation can take place . . . which is itself real but not of the Church but only because of the Church.

Not just religion but our entire life is a game and anything we do is vanity (or dukkha), because it has been generated by the unexamined life which itself is an illusion or eternal life could not be real with salvation being the event that leads to eternal life.

A devout Jewish man is praying. "Lord, I have kept the Commandments and the Law. I have brought up my children to fear You and to live their lives in the same way. My heart rejoices to see that my two daughters are today bringing my grandchildren to the synagogue every Sabbath and raising them as good Jews. But my only son, Lord, is breaking my heart. Despite everything, he has turned his back on his people and become a Christian."

And to his shock, a big voice replies from the heavens: "OY VEY! YOUR ONLY SON IS BREAKING YOUR HEART?"
