Perhaps later I will explain why I need this information.

Thanks in advance.

Classical, I merged your post with a current discussion about secular charity work. There are some previous threads about this topic which readers of the merged thread may want to review, I recommend searching the PA&SA forum for the keyword "charity" to see them all.

One good thread with discussion is here:
Secular Charities (April 2004)

From a previous PA&SA resource thread, here is a list of secular charities:

Charity Navigator lists of all kinds of charities

Council for Secular Humanism found through Charity Navigator

American Red Cross

The Nature Conservatory

Population Connection

Doctors without Borders

Oxfam International

United Nations Children's Fund

Earth's Atheist Resistance To Holy Wars And Religious Devastation - An actual atheist charity

Secular Coalition for America

Internet Infidels Support

New: Hands on Humanity, A Universist Movement Charitable Mission

There is an ongoing discussion about atheist charity in the thread "Atheism Politics."

Alter, your idea is a good one, so I followed your lead and also wrote to the CSH. I gave it a personal spin, in hopes of expediting a reply:

Hello CSH,

After the December tsunami, you had a donation effort listed on this page: http://www.secularhumanism.org/thisjustin.htm which once read "SHARE is pooling the resources of the freethought community to assist relief efforts for this unprecedented natural disaster. If you would like to make your own online contribution to SHARE, please <use link>."

Is the Council for Secular Humanism planning to re-open the SHARE project in order to collect funds for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts? I'm an activist, and people are asking me for a secular charity (other than the Red Cross) to donate through.

Please advise, thank you.

The Center for Inquiry has opened its SHARE program, and there is a separate thread with the link and information, here: http://www.iidb.org/vbb/showthread.php?t=135760
Quote:
An urgent memo from Paul Kurtz, Chairman of the Center for Inquiry:

Please help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Donate today!

We are deeply distressed by the terrible tragedy caused by Hurricane Katrina. Tens of thousands of people have been displaced from their homes and many are without power or water. Unknown numbers of people remain trapped in New Orleans, and emergency response teams are overwhelmed. The Center for Inquiry and its affiliated organizations have launched an initiative to raise charitable funds for the area. We encourage all humanists, skeptics and rationalists to step forward and make a contribution through SHARE, the Secular Humanist Aid and Relief Effort.

All donations to SHARE from this campaign will go to AmeriCares for the benefit of victims of Hurricane Katrina. AmeriCares is a nonprofit aid and relief organization that coordinates distribution of medical supplies in response to natural disasters and for long-term humanitarian assistance programs. AmeriCares maintains stocks of emergency medical supplies and works with corporate donors to get needed supplies to disaster areas. They provide blankets, disaster relief supplies, vaccines, diapers, water purifers, tents, food, and other emergency items. AmeriCares also has an extremely low overhead, so donations go directly to help those in need.
The CSH link for the SHARE program for Katrina aid is:

The Internet Infidels is supporting the efforts of the Council for Secular Humanism and the American Humanist Association, by creating an announcement sticky which appears at the top of each forum on this message board. The links to the CSH and AHA donation sites are listed in this announcement.

It reads:
Quote:
Hurricane Katrina - Secular Relief Efforts
The staff of IIDB is deeply saddened by the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina. This event has severely impacted thousands of people, and we support the ongoing relief efforts. Below are links to a couple of secular charities that are directly supporting the aid efforts in the affected areas:

American Humanist Association
Center for Inquiry / SHARE
