To be clear, the notion of the seventh day
rest, the sabbath, emerged in the Jewish culture, hence Hebrew. The Aramaic שבתא is the obvious candidate for translation and given the Hebrew idea. Though $abattum is the Assyrian Akkadian cognate, it doesn't bear the relevant significance of the seventh day and it was not the source of the Aramaic or Hebrew words.
