I don't think grief and loss are the reason. I just think he's an old fool. He's made the claim that God gave him Lisa as his wife in 1987 -- 15 or so years before his wife died, and at that time Patti (his wife) became his "sister."

He also claims that God has told him Patti would not have made it to Heaven if it hadn't been for him.

This guy is a mad stalker. I seriously worry that he's going to harm this woman if he gets the chance.

Yeah, but did he make this actual claim in 1987, or did he say many years later that in 1987 god did this? Wouldnt be the first time someone made up some convoluted justification for something after the fact. Far as i know, it wasnt public knowledge that he had been bangin another woman until around 95-96 or so. And for the record, i agree with you, he is an old fool.

You may well be right, I just hope we never find out.

Yes, those who believe in the existences of Gods and Demons could honestly believe that a God or Demon actually talked to them, instructing them to do such things. However, we know better and we know that in all likelihood that these individuals suffer from one form of mental illness or another. They would hear voices even if they never opened a Bible or other Holy Book. Perhaps they would think their cat was telling them to kill the baby, or aliens absent religion. Religion, despite it's many flaws and pretty horrible things, is not responsible for mental illness or the actions of individuals who commit acts believing they are following some Divine Directive. Perhaps there is some mitigating responsibility on behalf of religion. Gods and Demons have never been responsible for the mentally ill. It seems that their minds are framing things according to their environment (which makes sense.)

Agreed. Religion does not cause actual mental illness. Black-and-white thinking, radicalism, idealized stupidity, witch hunts, and Inquisitions, but not mental illness. The delusions tend to show up according to whatever mental framework the victim of the illness has. Strong Christian background+schizophrenia=voices from God/angels/Satan/demons.

Doyle is apparently emailing this poor woman everyday, and posting copies on his website. Here's today's offering:

Quote:
Subject: Police Report
Sent: 06/15/2005

Dear Lisa,

I can not believe that something that did not happen turned into such a report. The report is a complete fabrication by four people. It is clear to me and will be to everyone else, that, it is the work of the devil. God will judge the four of you, and each will receive a just reward. The devils work did not stop here, but continued to attack me and two months later the Schlosser lady killed her baby. The media frenzy tried to manipulate me to agree that I had a strong influence over people to no avail. I have always said I have no power over people, but the gospel I minister does to them that believe. The two things the devil stirred up the media with was most interesting: 1 the law is not made for a righteous man. 2 Wives must submit to their husbands. That is certainly not my teaching nor is it new. That is the Lord's teaching. I withstood that attack and God has brought me to this day unscathed.

I hope you are doing well, since I have not seen or heard from you for more than two weeks. I am pressing toward that high calling of God in Christ Jesus. I know you will come out of this ok. Most certainly all of you will be confounded and ashamed, but that is only temporary. God will heal you up. I desire to see you, and I know the Lord will deliver you into my hands, shortly.

I love you
Doyle
I'm no mental health professional, but in my laymen's opinion .. this guy is a dangerous nutter.

I have visited Doyle Davidson's web site, and I will have to agree this man is having a meltdown.

Since most theists don't go around butchering and murdering their children, it seems most logical that psychosis drives these sorts of religious delusions. Andrea Yates suffered from the most severe form of post-partum depression, post-partum psychosis. If a woman has any pre-existing chemical imbalance or mental issues one of the worst things she can do is get pregnant. The post-partum rollercoaster of sleep deprivation and dramatic hormonal changes can dramatically effect an otherwise mentally healthy woman. The problem is probably exasberated by those who fervently believe in the darker aspects of religion.

If we believe there is no God than a God cannot produce these visions and given the ample scientific evidence of mental illness it seems a biological/physiological cause drives these horrific acts of violence.
You're sticking to the atheistic line, and as an atheist, I agree. There's a better explanation than God. Exactly. Even the Christians are quick to agree with you.

Gravity is a better explanation as to what holds down rocks than invisible aliens. However if you believe invisible aliens are all that holds down the people, it's at least a little bit of special pleading to argue that gravity is the better explanation for the rocks.

Is the God meme a contagious mental disorder? It seems that his church is infected with a particularly vile and contagious strain.

In a nutshell: this wackjob, Doyle Davidson, of Water of Life Church in Plano, Tx (burb of Dallas) appears to be having a mental meltdown, on television -- in front of God and everybody. Doyle is not just any preacher .. he's a prophet (and apostle) and spends most of his hour-long television show yelling at the dumbasses who attend his church. He also has the power to consign people to The Devil, so I certainly hope I don't upset him.

But that's not the good part.

He is also the pastor of Dena Schlosser, a woman who killed her own infant by cutting both his arms off, apparently at the command of God Himself.

But that's old news.

God gave Doyle a special gift, not just of prophecy, but also of the (much younger) wife of another man. Unfortunately, the woman involved is possessed by a "spirit of Jezebel" which makes her rebellious and apostate, and she refuses to "come home" to Doyle. Even though she claims to live for God she will not obey God's command (as delivered by His prophet, Doyle) and Doyle is plenty pissed about it.

The story is too long and sordid for me to go into right now, but if you want to observe a religious fanatic well down the road of insanity, or if you just want to feel your skin crawl, here is his main website: shudder

The first link in the thread is where he has posted some emails to his "wife."

My biggest question is .. who gives money to crazy bastards like this?

LOL, what a whack job! Hey, did you happen to see the police reports he put on his site? They seem to all be charges against him for being drunk in public. Figures...

Police Reports

Crazy.

Nope. He showed up wasted at Lisa's house -- when she was still married to someone else -- and starting beating the crap out of her. :devil3:

Actually, this makes me wonder because I'm not entirely convinced of this myself: is this wacko actually married to this woman or is he just stalking her and calling her his wife because he said so?
