Default Ignosticism

Anybody heard of the term before? I think it outlines my position very well, I do not consider myself an atheist nor am I a theist either. I condsier both labels to be void of meaning and irrelevant because their object (God) is also meaningless and irrelevant. To me it is as if one is saying "I believe in nothingness" and the other "I lack belief in nothingness".

I've never heard of Ignosticism but it sounds reasonable to me. How exactly does it differ from atheism? Which also, IMO, views "the question of the existence of God to be meaningless because it has no verifiable (or testable) consequences and should therefore be ignored"

Just sounds like another pointless label to me, or an atheist by any other name

Atheism isn't a dirty word you know

I've heard of igtheism, which IIRC was coined by Paul Kurtz. Means 'I don't know what you mean by the word god'. 'Ignosticism' is new to me though; it seems to me that such a concept is a refinement of agnosticism, in particular strong agnosticism which declares that it is impossible for us to know anything about god(s).

I consider all such refinements- atheism, agnosticism, non-cognitivism, igtheism, ignosticism, even pantheism- to be aspects of skepticism, and more or less equally valid. I call myself atheist/pantheist, because I think that there are no separate beings that are godlike insofar as humans can tell, and that most of the properties men have labelled godlike are aspects of the universe itself, and of us. If there were a 'god' that preferred to remain hidden from us, I don't think that such a being would actually be what we mean when we use the word 'god'.

Where did you see the word, Valz?

Anyone can write a wikipedia article. The author thought it a meaningful article to post, and not enough people have disagreed with it to get it deleted.

This word, ignostic, fairly accurately describes me, but needs of communication make it impractical for common usage.

I am not saying it is a dirty word. As I said in the OP, I consider the label theist and atheist to be void of any meaning because the object their refer to is void of any meaning as well.

Myself, I'm an Ugnostic and an Etheist.

But some days I feel like I'm a Shagnostic and a Prathiest!

(Come up with your own definitions. I just made them up.)

I was looking for the types of agnosticism and found it. I was thinking about something like "negative agnosticism" but then what I had in mind is better described as Ignosticism.

Agreed, that is why I prefer Natural Pantheist since it is better understood.

I've usually seen the belief that the word "God" is meaningless referred to as just "noncognitivism".
