I saved you from your own sin!!!

*snerk* Funny, but remember, not all religion is fundamentalist christianity. It might be something more like deism.

But seriously, we can argue over the point if I'm a real atheist or not. I don't believe in "god", that's a fact, but does it make me an atheist?
Yes, it does.

The question is, I suppose, whether one can be an atheist and still believe in a "higher power". It seems a mite contradictory to me to say that
1) there is no "higher power"
2) nature is a "higher power"

but I'm probably misunderstanding your view.

Just to be sure, you guys are aware that my last post was a joke. Just thought I'd check after those two rebuttals.

Anyway, to make you feel better, I'll flip the coin

Christian sayings and what they mean

God is love = God will rape you shitless, metaphorically and maybe literally

God is a shepherd caring for his flock = You think for yourself and that's a fuck off cliff you'll be walking off.

God will spend all His time looking for one lost sheep, etc = Not even God wants an ass kisser

Jesus was white! = It's twue. Jesus was always white, no weally, he was white as white can be

The Bible is the word of God = And He's kept that joke up for a long time!

I was wondering why a poster propounding a theistic point of view would call himself "Agnostic Beast".

Well, I can't say about the Beast part, but you'll be amazed at the reactions of some people when you tell them it relates to the beast(s) of Revelations.

I'm an agnostic theist, but 'beast' sounds better than 'theist', don't ya think?

On the subject, I wonder how long before someone relates the tsunami to 'the beast of the sea'?

Note: Must re-research that bit of the Bible.

How exactly was this "power higher than themselves" phrased? Something more physically powerful than humanity? More morally upright? Supernatural? Most if not all atheists would deny the supernatural. The possibility of a physically superior species exists. "Morally superior" 's definition is in doubt, but that could be possible as well without the "superior" being or race being supernatural.

If they do, then why would they not believe in Jesus Christ?
If you believe in a higher power, then why don't you believe in Allah? Why does believing in a "higher power" necessitate belief in any one specific higher power?

They have cited reasons as being that the bible is based on the spuernatural & they don't believe in he supernatural.
Usually the arguments rely as well on the idea that the Bible's accuracy can't be verified enough, there are internal contradictions, etc.

So what is this power higher than yourselves that you believe in?
I assume you're talking about a supernatural god-like "higher power" now. Atheists don't believe in one. As for the possibility of a physically superior species, I don't think that can be ruled out but I don't believe in any particular species. (The martians...no...the venusians!)
Quote:
Other atheists say they don't believe in a power higher than themselves. So which is it? Your belief system seem to be just as confusing to you guys as it is to others. Can you clarify this without contradicting yourselves?
We don't believe in the supernatural, therefore a supernatural god as a "higher power" is out. The possibility of a being physically superior to humanity exists, however.
