Default Buy a Casket for the Pope

Those interested in contributing to a fund to buy a casket for the Catholic Church so they can afford to put the Pope in one (for crissake), give me a call.

This is a joke, right? They can't afford a casket for him? Are they being thrifty suddenly?

Well, in the AP photo he is just laid out on a board or so it looks. I assume they can't swing for a casket.

They could have done a better job on the makeup too. This afternoon MSNBC.com had an unflattering closeup of the stiff pontiff from his right side. His chin was all purplish, like he'd gotten a left cut. Now everyone's showing pictures from his better side.
His hands looked pretty gross in the picture too. I thought his fingers were already turning black but it turns out they wrapped some rosary beads in them, probably to keep them together.

Actually all Catholics have rosary beads in their hands when they're laid out.

Evidently, they can't afford formalin either...the Pope has not been embalmed. They just put a little "light preservative" on him. I hope it's cool in Pome the next few days.

Not embalmed. Why not? He's not gonna make it thru Friday. Embalmed and they can only make it for a few days.

Quote:
"Of course they're embalmed. One who has seen hundreds of embalmed bodies, as I have, can recognize an embalming job.

Three days after death, tissue gas from bacteria begins to give off an odor, and an unembalmed body swells. Skin begins to separate from the underlying tissue, so the face would sag.

Paul VI was embalmed but not very well, as his face was turning dark and the swelling was obvious. I suspect he wasn't aspirated, which is a procedure that evacuates the internal organs of all matter and blood.

I won't go into what that involves here."
