We've got one here that certainly seems to be full of something....

Yeah, something that starts with "S" and ends with "t".

I think we know the best (non-moderator) response to Bill Joey is to ignore his posts. Unfortunately, all it takes is one response and he gets to persist a little longer. Sooner or later, he will either give up or do something ban-worthy. It's that simple folks. Though I must say it's kinda fun responding to such posts. I couldn't help but think an atheist was posing as the worst apologist imaginable... just for fun. But do apologists really need a sock puppet to look bad?

This has nothing to do with E/C. Moving to BC&H (or whatever we call it now).

How do you determine what is and what is not the "Word of God"?

Which version of it, and why? And why the Bible? Do you *worship* that book?

Because it's asserting and not arguing.

Suppose I was to repeat over and over to you:

Epicurus was right. David Hume was right. Bertrand Russell was right. Richard Dawkins is right. PZ Myers is right. Etc. etc. etc.

And quote at length from their works without any attempt to argue that they are right.

That's what preaching seems like to us.

And the Devil showed him "all the kingdoms of the world" from a high mountain. Where was that mountain?

I've calculated how high it would have be to make that feat possible, and that mountain would have to extend into outer space.

The tallest mountain in the Roman Empire was Agri Dagi, and the tallest more central one was Mt. Blanc, and at 3 mi / 5 km, both are far insufficient.

One would need a 500-km mountain to see all the Roman Empire.

Adding the Parthians (Iran): 600 km
Adding Taprobane (Sri Lanka): 2300 km
Adding China: 2700 km
Adding the Mayans (Guatemala): 27000 km

So why didn't Jesus Christ describe the appearance of the Earth from outer space?

(further Bill-Joey Bible-thumping snipped)

How it is a "lie", Bill Joey?

And how is it any worse than other unbiblical stuff like heliocentrism and round-earthism?

The method is to stick to the Word of God and it alone in debates. The way He and I debate is to use the Bible and it alone. The Bible is the authority and the only authority. God will convict the skeptic, but that skeptic needs to be elected. God from the beginning of time knew who would choose him, and so he better enables the elect to make the decision to accept the gospel and spend eternity with him. But unfortunately most skeptics reject him, and choose hellfire and brimstone and an eternity burning in a fire. This is a horrid and horrible fate that no skeptic or anyone wants. This is the method that we use.
*sigh* I guess we're supposed to pretend that we've never heard all this before?

There is no afterlife or supernatural miracles. I don't know about God, but there's a good chance he's invented. As for the Bible, it's a book, maybe worthy of study, maybe not, but definitely NOT meant to be worshipped as an idol.

Is there a reason that Bill Joey hasn't been shown the ban hammer yet? Is it just out of pure entertainment?

Let him go on. Perhaps he will be one of those Theists who, when it's all done will realize that his preaching made no difference and will question what he preaches.

Obviously not powerful and effective enough if all it takes is a Free Thought forum to hamstring it.

You can try to split hairs, saying the "forum is tying YOU up" vs. your scriptures, but it makes no difference. You have admitted, albeit implied, in the quote of you above that the "word" by itself is powerless unless this forum "unties" the hands of Christians so Christians can preach.

You can't have it both ways. Either the "word" by itself can do the job, or only through Christians preaching it. If it can stand alone, stop sweating it. You being tied up doesn't phase it one iota. In fact, if you would step aside, perhaps us skeptics might look upon what it says with less of a foul taste in our mouth.
