Doesn't mean what you say has any credibility, or intellectual merit.

Tquestion the credibility or merit of a comparison, you can't just say that the things being compared are too different to be compared. For example:

Comparison: Black holes and Supernovas
  • Black holes are sigularities that have an enormous gravitational pull from which no energy can escape.
  • Supernovas are stars that have matured to a stage in which most of the material is denser than hydrogen. They expand rapidly and are often several times larger than their former sizes.
  • Blackholes and supernovas are vastly different phenomena.

Just becuase the two are vastly different, doesn't mean that they cannot be compared. That's all I'm saying.

My comparison between Hitler, Stalin and Bush stems from the fact that all of them seem to be fanatically guided by their ideology, National-Socialism (Fascism), Communism, and what can we call Bush's ideology Religious Pre-emptive conservatism ???

Their believe/faith that their way is not only the best way, but the only way scares me to death.

Has noone noticed that not only you cannot reason with Bush and his administration, but his followers/voters are almost as blinded as those of Hitler were? I hope the Americans will not have to use the old German saying "Wir haben es nicht gewusst" later. I mean we've seen the building of 'concentration camps'-like prisons in Guantanamo, Afghanistan and Iraq already. Are the 'terrorists' Bush's Jews?

I have no problem with people who have an ideology. At least you know where such people stand and at which target they aim. A lack of ideology in politics is little more than an unprincipled visionless pragmatism.

My problem with Hitler and Stalin is that they had ideologies inimical to individual rights and well-being.

And you can reason with Democrats? No, just like religion, most people won't budge on their political beliefs, Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, etc. OMG, this one guy I knew who was a Libertarian was die-hard fanatical. It's sad, really. All their ideas are right, everyone else's ideas are wrong. Blah blah fuckin' blah. I still don't get the Bush-Hitler connection, but oh well.

Since BZ has made no attempt to return to this thread or justify its existence, nor to further explain or put into context the hypothetical conundrum his poll presents, I am going to make the assumption that Hitler and Stalin are both running for Homecoming Queen. Based on that assumption, I'm voting for Hitler, because i think he would look better in a dress.

I'd vote for Ralph Nader.

Oh, that clears it up. So you can compare anybody to Hitler, and Hitler to a hole in the ground. Where does that leave you? How does it add anything of substance to a discussion?

I'd run against them and conduct my campaign from a bunker or something
