How about simply 'yes'?

The answer depends on what you mean by the word "came"... :devil3:

(I'd say the chicken came first, because I don't think eggs do that -- at least not the ones in my refrigerator... )

The chicken came first. The chicken had to get laid before the egg could.

It depends on whether you consider the organism inside the egg a form of chicken. If you think the organism inside the egg only becomes a chicken when it is hatched, an egg laid by a non-chicken organism (if only by a little bit) would contain the embryo for the the first chicken (if only marginally so), which would become a chicken when it hatched, and hence the chicken came first.

If you think the embryo of the chicken becomes a chicken at some point in the egg, or at the fertilization of the egg, the egg came first, if you agree that a chicken still in it's egg is considered an egg.

I got this idea because several years ago, during a casual radio debate on E v. C, there was a moment of mirth when a caller asked this question. The evolutionist repeated the question back and answered 'a dinosaur'. Pretty good, off the cuff, but what would you guys have said?
