This is not a Christian forgery. Elkington is a new age entrepreneur who will be coming out with a book that will attempt to turn Christianity upside down, which will probably appeal to the Da Vinci conspiracy crowd. Christian and atheist scholars seem to be united in the efforts to debunk these codices.

The final word

This youtube video is a series of text and pictures, with some dramatic background music. But it should put an end to Elkington's project:

I clearly spoke too soon.

Elkington was on Coast to Coast again tonight. I caught part of the show. He still claims that the Jordanian government is about to come out with proof that the codices are authentic; and that the Bedouins found some real codices and then faked some others. He claimed that the codices are being translated, and contain a cite from the Book of Daniel.

The Facebook page refers to this appearance.

Thank you for the update, Toto: very useful.

The longer this goes on, the less possible it is to believe that David Elkington is acting honestly. I initially entertained the idea that he was a dupe. After all, he would not be either the first the last westerner to be taken in by a dodgy Arab with something to sell.

But I don't know that he has acknowledged the problem. He hasn't taken measures to dispell the doubts by transparency.

When a man accused of being party to a fraud persists with the business, as if nothing had happened, then doing so makes him look like a party to the fraud, rather than a victim of it. And this seems to be what Elkington has done, if one can believe reports.

IMHO, of course.

All the best,

Roger Pearse

Further update from Daniel McClellan with a link to the Coast to Coast episode.

I am not a regular Coast to Coast listener, but I sometimes pick it up when I am driving at that time. The host specializes in UFO sightings and paranormal activity, but also seems to include regular journalists with something real, as long as it is interesting.

Previously, Kenneth Hanson appeared on the show, with a different host. Youtube link. Hanson has actual credentials and seemed to debunk Elkington.

On his Facebook page, which he continues to pretend he does not author, David Elkington has responded directly to the comments I posted the other day in response to his radio interview and subsequent clarification regarding my concern....

I hope you all don't mind me chiming in. I'm one of the people trying to put a stop to Elkington's fraud, and I thought I'd share a few thoughts. You can find quite a bit more information on my blog:

danielomcclellan.wordpress.com/tag/jordan-codices/

The transcription Elkington provides on the Facebook page has been manipulated to remove a judgment made by Dr. Northover regarding a specific aspect of the codices that is not indicative of the ancient provenance Elkington claims for the codices. I discuss the manipulation of the report here:

danielomcclellan.wordpress.com/2011/09/03/short-video-on-jordan-codices/

I and others have communicated directly with Dr. Northover, and he has explicitly stated that his analysis does not rule out a modern provenance. This is critical because this report is the only actual documentation Elkington has provided to back up his numerous claims that multiple independent analyses are vindicating his story. In fact, the document only supports his story because Elkington has altered it to do so.

Absolutely all the evidence points unequivocally to the codices being of modern origin, and every time Elkington opens his mouth about the language or symbolism of the text and iconography of the codices he betrays his own naivety. He has misrepresented the nature of the script on the codices on numerous levels, and he hides behind the notion that the world's leading scholars are feeding him this info, and that they're conclusions are beyond reproach. There are no world-class scholars producing translations of the codices, though. That is all a pure fabrication. The codices contain nothing but gibberish produced by an uninformed conflation of different scripts from disparate cultures and time periods.
