The others (as it seems that you managed to get the previous downloaded documents to work):
Stephen J. Patterson, "Can You Trust a Gospel? A Review of Richard Bauckham's Jesus and the Eyewitnesses" Theodore J. Weeden Sr, "Polemics as a Case for Dissent: A Response to Richard Bauckham's Jesus and the Eyewitnesses" Howard Marshall, "A New Consensus on Oral Tradition? A Review of Richard Bauckham's Jesus and the Eyewitnesses" Craig A. Evans, "The Implications of Eyewitness Tradition" I would recommend saving the files to a folder rather than trying to view them online. Again, there is a delay for the free downloads to encourage people to sign up for paid accounts, but as each of the articles would cost you more than a dollar for every second of each delay if you don't have access to the journal (and provided it isn't published elsewhere), I would say it's worth the wait. Let me know if any of the downloads don't work. |

All four do the20-second countdown like they are downloading, but with this batch I don't find the pdf either in start/documents/downloads nor in start/documents/pictures nor in start/documents/recent changes. A side note says my download system is outdated and it wants me to install iLivid for downloading. When I installed iLivid a month ago it took over my whole computer and we had to restore back to an earlier time.
Yet I know you put the file out there because I can see it on Preview in tiny print. |

Great advice! Ignore the iLivid message and just go ahead and a second time click the download file now above the 20 second countdown (that still appears there even though the 20 seconds already counted down). A beautiful pdf. file comes up in my downloads folder. To edit it I still need to convert to Word

Never mentioned by me before, but those numerous reviews LOM downloaded about Bauckham got a response in the same volume of Journal for the Study of the Historical Jesus (next issue) from Bauckham that is viewable through Surfgroepen:
https://www.surfgroepen.nl/sites/cnt...SHJ%202008.pdf It's not downloadable or copyable from there. I won't say Bauckham is supercilious here, but he is very above-the-fray in questioning why the reviewers bring up shopworn topics or go beyond the limits which he had set for himself. Certainly Catchpole and Weeden took the opportunity to thrash inerrancy and Christianity. Bauckham had newly come up with his conclusions on eyewitness, but he remains as always no Fundamentalist, inerrantist, nor even particularly strong defender of historicity. On the other hand, he does not a priori dismiss supernatural events. To Samuel Byrskog, Bauckham sees no way to get back behind the testimony of witnesses, but fortunately we are a lot closer to eyewitnesses than most scholars think (229). To Catchpole he lists five ways in which even underlying eyewitnesses can yet lead to the discrepancies we now see in the texts (231). The Infancy Narratives are outside his scope (232). He does not think the Marcan discrepancies are major(232-235). Regarding the Resurrection accounts, there are differences due to different eyewitnesses, but none that are due to theological overrides (236). Sources are used as they are by Plutarch (237). Catchpole and Form Criticism have the a priori rules that Bauckham denies he has (240). To Stephen Patterson he explains the departure of gJohn from the Synoptics from having an author outside the Twelve (243). For him the author and beloved disiciple is John the Elder, the host at the Last Supper. To Theodore Weeden he starts by rejecting everything Weeden (thus implicitly Tyson, Pervo) states about Acts (249). Sticking to the relevent gLuke and underlying gMark, Bauckham charges Weeden with presenting the same denigration of Peter as he did in 1971, a viewpoint that has been contested in 1989 and again in 2000 (251). |

I hope many are reading the reviews linked above to the reviews of Richard Bauckham's Jesus and the Eyewitnesse. They're excellent, particularly from the usual FRDB perspective. Bauckham's responses are good, but limited, but I don't want to fill in all the gaps except where there is an interest. I would like to offer to respond where you feel Bauckham has not. For anything substantial we'd need to start in a new thread. Tell us here where you've started.
