Default Pope to ban gays from clergy

At least that is what is reported, this is not confirmed yet.

I am wondering what the point is - if you take a vow of celibacy isn't your sexual orientation then a moot.

See your problem is that you are "rational."

Vatican Rules Would Try to Prevent Gays From Entering Priesthood

By STACY MEICHTRY

VATICAN CITY -- New rules that would bar gay men from the Roman Catholic priesthood have been submitted to Pope Benedict XVI for approval, signaling a push for tightened regulations as the church prepares to review the sexual conduct of its seminarians.
See site to read story. Hookpunch, regarding your comment, the story says:
Quote:
Observers note that the severity of the ban will hinge on how far the document goes in defining homosexuality, and whether chaste priests who admit to having homosexual impulses -- but not actions -- would be tolerated.

Heh, that's hardly a moral foundations thread. Religious discrimination is immoral, but...

I never even notice where threads are since I always use the "New Posts" feature. It's so much faster than clicking on individual forums.

Whatever increases the RC vocational crisis is good enough for me. Anyway, gay Catholics are "Jewish Nazis" IMO.

Weren't they banned already? I've heard horror stories from gay folk that went to the seminary. Lots of harrassment.

Something tells me this is just propaganda fide... "It vas der homosexuals... the rest of us are innocent lambs of Got. Homosexuals are contaminators, see? Puuuuurge! Puuuuuuuuuurge!"

The next thing you know he'll open up local or parish inquisitorial commitees... but with nicer names. Who knows. These times are weird (When are they not?).

Anyhow, this would kind of kill an argument I've heard from a few Catholics (and other christians), indicating that men who are gay are actually "called by god" to repress their urges and enter the priesthood.
