Default bob the god

I was pondering the other day... the title 'god', either cap G or lower case is still just a title... so does the christian, cap G, god actually have a 'proper' name, like, say, Bob...

Maybe time for a rest

Somebody will insist on spelling it B-b.

It's not G-d, it's D-g.

Ah but the good, nay, mysterious thing about Bob is that it's the same abbreviated backwards... weird a?

B-b... or b-B

It's the same backwards even if it's not abbreviated. The technical term is palindrome.

Anyway, God's name transliterates from Hebrew as YHWH. There's another author (there are four separate authors of the first five books, each tells the story a little differently) who refers to him as Elohim, but the former name is more commonly used. From it we get "Yahweh", "Jehovah" and such.

Just to show my atheistically brought up ignorance of christianity... Why is 'YHWH' all capitalised? And why is it that christianities god is referred to as cap 'G' god and not YHWH. After all, it IS just one god out of soooo many...

Ha! It's hardly unique to atheists. I was raised a christian and I didn't find out until I became an agnostic.

No idea. I believe it associates with those parts in the bible where it says "LORD" in caps, but I'm not certain.

Probably because they don't know. See the first bit.

I dunno about all that, but 'Bob the god' would make a great IIDB username.

Cheers,

It's just the language, how they wrote it. They still pronounced it as "Yahweh" but didn't "officially" have any vowels in their language.

Somebody obviously thought sounded cool. Whatever!
