Like trying to define the color green to a blind-from-birth person...

Faith is believing without evidence. What's to get?
Faith is obviously wrong, and a bad thing, and getting a person to accept the proposition that "faith is a good thing" (usually by telling them this while they are a defenseless child) is the trick that lets all the other nonsense into his brain unopposed. |

What of those who had faith then lost it? Are you suggesting that they didn't have faith to begin with?

What of those who have faith in opposing viewpoints? IN the very best possible case for faith, assuming for the sake of argument that the plurality of proponents who are in agreement with one another regarding what they "know" to be true via faith, faith would still be providing the wrong answers to 61% of people who rely on it, based on figures from adherents.com
And note, in that plurality considered to be in "agreement", jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, Protestants and Catholics are included with each other. If you really break it down, faith fares much, much worse. |

I can describe the concept of colors to a blind person, by analogy to textures. This analogy is logical and sensible, not in the least because the color of an object really is a kind of texture. The analogy is consistent, broadly applicable, reliable, and at no point requires one to embrace contradiction or allow special pleading. Try doing that with faith. Edit: Yes, I was thinking of the movie "Mask" too. |

If one can only "get" faith by having it already, then the unfaithful can in no way be blamed for being unfaithful--there is nothing they can do about their situation.
