Default Was Joseph Smith a cult leader?

Hola!

Would you consider the founder of the Mormon church, Joseph Smith to be a cult leader? He must of had a dynamic personality to teach and lead a new, unique faith in Christianity. How did he get so many followers so quickly. I ask this because in my opinion, Mormonism is a very exotic form of Christianity, with a second sacred book (The Book of Mormon), plus beliefs in a three tier Heaven, eternal marriages, Jesus coming to America after the reserrection, and the all important polygamy.

He built a city in Illinois named Nauvoo (it's still there), but Smith was rounded up, arrested and lynched in 1844. Most of the Mormons went westward with Brigham Young (another cult leader?) or started a new branch of Mormonism that was later led by Joseph Smith's son.

What's your opinion,

Senor

Cool

Mormons are not Christians, as I have told them to their face many times. Christians have one book-------they have two. I never heard of the angel MORON who appeared before Joseph Smith. He must have been a charismatic schizophrenic. Note that he ended up in Hawaii, so he was not stupid.

A comparable example of such charismatic leadership bosltered by mental illness is Adolph Hitler, the only head of state to rise from homelessness.
The U.S. War Department did a psychological profile of him that diagnosed him with no less than three mental illnesses and predicted he would die by his own hand.

In Eva Braun's diary, she describes secret missions she performed for her lover that consisted of borrowing books om psychiatry from the library in her name for Adolph to read. He was adament that noone should ever find out about this arrangement. As the Nazies euthanized almost 100,000 mental patients in Germany by law and lethal injection, I believe Adolph would have become a victim of his own euthanation laws.

There is no doubt in my mind that had Eva Braun disclosed his little secret, Adolph would have immediately been removed from power and perhaps even euthenized by his own people. Had Joseph Smith lived in today's world, he would be in a psychiatric ward, along with Adolph.
