Divus Filius: Caesar and Christus
I'm sure this has been discussed to death (though I can't find a thread on the subject), so I just wanted to post a poll and get a glimpse of the general opinion. Still, I'd appreciate any additional input. Thank you for your patience.

I was looking at a web page on comparative religion that went throught the various Caeser / Christ similarities. It was quite compelling. I'll have another look to see if I can find the link.

I voted "independently developed", but there are some clear pagan influences in the Gospels, like the notion of divine impregnation / virgin birth. Divine impregnations are very common in Greco-Roman mythology, but are rare in the Old Testament. What is the fundamental difference between
Romulus being the son of a god and a virgin Jesus Christ being the son of a god and a virgin ? |
