Suppose there were no abortions anywhere. How many people would be by now in China? Double or triple?
The reality is that this planet has finite resources. Increased populations do not just have to be fed. They are also a strain on the environment as is becoming more and more evident.

Good Christians and good Muslims believe that God will provide. Jesus said: With God all things are possible.

A good fight between the Christians and the Muslims will perhaps rebalance population pressures?

Is that what the pope wants? Let God do the killing instead?

Gunter: Dont worry about it, faith healing'll increase infant mortality and lack of abortions'll balance perfectly. Long live papal decree.

and actually I was thinking more along the lines of encouraging already overpopulated countries to have more children rather than abortion keeping populations down.

It's quite wonderful how this institution, overwhelmingly male and supposedly celibate, feels free to tell the rest of humanity how to lead their sex lives.

They are celibate (unmarried), but not all of them are chaste and abstain from sex.

My rant to the world: People, you MUST stop giving automatic respect to cretins like Benedict XVI. This man is a moron who, without any qualifications whatsoever for the job, takes it on himself to offer advice and issue commands (where he can enforce them) that would lead to unmitigated disaster if he were to have his way.

However he trims his sails for political purposes, he still lives in the sixteenth century and still thinks that if he had his rights, he'd be giving orders to the whole of Christendom and conquering the rest of the world in its name. The mask often slips, and he comes right out and says that Islam is wicked and that Protestants really aren't Christians. Then he has to shut up and let one of his handlers "explain" what he meant. This is unnecessary; we know goddamned well what he meant.

If it weren't for birth control and contracpetives he condemns, i wouldn't be suprised if we were in the middle of a Malthusian Catastrophe.

I'd love to see the day when a large group of lay catholics tell the the pope to just shut the fuck up.

It won't happen. They just become Protestants.

Well, I don't know how large they are, but some of them are working hard at it.

Especially now that most food grains are redirected towards alternate fuel production. The good news here is that they will be worth something.
