Re-read seebs' last Screwtape quote. The parochial principle is a principle of community, not selection.
I was responding to Seebs' assertion that large, complex organizations can't do missions well.

Whether the structure is a commercial enterprise, a nation, or an internet community, size and complexity do not necessarily equate to missional failure. Small, simple social structures can be missional failures.

The key to missional success is leadership and communication. The larger and more complex an organization is the more apparent the leadership must be, leadership must show up, it must communicate clearly and concisely, it must make decisions that are missionally aligned.

What leadership looks like is going to differ depending on the type of organization. What communication looks like is going to differ as well. But these are asides to the main issue.

The main issue is this question: is CF missional?

The problem is that we never seem to get too far beyond the point of arguing over what the mission is.

To me, that's the number one sign that leadership has failed.

And indeed, I assert that the leadership of CF has failed. Because regardless of whether or not I agree with their definition of what the mission is, it is necessary to keep asking that they just show up and talk about it.

If we have to ask Exec what the mission is, regardless of what out desired outcome is, then Exec has failed. Leadership is about being out front - leading.

Some of you may remember me speaking about my friend Angela, a wonderful girl, who had cancer and was in a great deal of pain with it, some of you remembered her in your prayers. She was a wonderful lady who spent all her time living for others and had a deep love of Jesus and never grumbled or moaned about her trials. She died a few hours ago, leaving her mother and father heartbroken in their loss.
Co-incidentally, I sang at her church tonight, where she struggled to go daily almost right to the end, for a golden wedding celebration, and she was never far from my mind. I could almost see her sitting there, as she would have done, singing her heart out, something she loved to do.
I think her parents are the ones now in need of people's compassion and care...she will be greatly missed.
