Today there are so many variances in Judaism that most would be unrecognizable to the Jews of 2000 years ago. Then again, the Judaic practices of the Pharisees would not be recognized by Abraham or Moses.

Today we have;

Orthodox Jews
Hassidic Jews
Reformed Jews
Jews for Jesus
etc, etc, etc.

I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.

That’s true.

Hasidic Jews are a subset of Orthodox Jews. The antonym of Hasidic Jews is Yeshivish Jews aka Lithuanian Jews.

Reformed Jews
Those are liberals. Their views of Judaism are very Spong-like.

Jews for Jesus
Those are Christians. “Jews for Jesus” is just a sneaky name designed to convince Jews they aren’t leaving Judaism when they become Christians.

The history of Christianity (which includes Jewish history, until the death of Christ) is explained very simply as a cycle, which I believe will continue until the return of Christ:

People seek to please God...
People seek to please themselves...

ad infinitum...well almost infinitum...

why don't people just seek enlightened self-interest? is it not a stable quantity (the RingWorld comes to mind)?
