It seems strange that god (if the theists are right) wants us to believe he exists. If that's correct, why doesnt it/she/he perform a geewhiz, bangup miracle where everyone could see it. Something like the Angels of Mons would do it for me.

That may not be too good an example, since the Angels of Mons turned out to be a reporter's story to fill in a dull day, but I think you see the principle.
