Now if he or she had said, I have a PhD in the subject I'm speaking about, so there is a good chance I know what I'm talking about, things would be fine. After all, that's what you presume to be the case when you go to a doctor and not a hair dresser when you are ill.

But besides on a few occasion's Richard Carrier, which PhD says "I have a PhD and therefore you must assume that I am right"?.

. . . which in the end is exactly what places Oxford opposite to Stradford as anti-christ opposite to Christ.
I am unaware of any place named Stradford. If you meant Strattford, it's neither a university nor a place opposite Oxford. It's north west of (and above) Oxford. And I fail to see how an appeal to authority places Oxford anywhere, let alone exactly as Christ.

Once again, Twilight Zone stuff.

A PHD in theology may be more likely to be more knowledgeable than sheshbaazzar, but not necessarily right. You are supporting argument by authority. I hve read more books than you and did a thesis. Therefore what in terms of the pursuit of truth?

Dr Phil has a PHD in psychology from Podunk U and he makes a lot iof money by by virtue of people accepting truth by authority.

False equivalence medical doctor to a PHD in theology.

MDs deal in a pragmatic cause and effect scientific reality. When I had eye surgery I asked the surgeon what his success rate was.

PHDs in both theology and philosophy do not have to be right in their thesis and subsequent publications. They have to make plausible conclusions based on assumed premises.

Invoking a book or paper as a proof of a position in theology is appeal to authority.

On the Exodus thread duvduv when pressed about factual physical evidence and corroborating contemporary accounts, he defers to writers.

There are many PHD Christians who make reasoned arguments or inerrancy.

The Vatican is filled with PHD theologians some with philosophy PHDs from major schools.

One can find a published PHD to support just about any position you wish to assume.

Understand I am not trashing academia and PHDs which are major achievements, I do not necessarily accept appeal to authority based on academic credential alone.

As to sheeshbazz and others I do not know what the big deal is. This is not a peer reviewed major site where we are debating the fate of humanity.

If any of us here were all that knowledgeable, we would not be here arguing Exodus, HJ or MJ, and gospel origins ad nauseum, we'd be writing books and making money.

I agree, though I don't think it's very likely.

I am?

Good for you! But how you know how many books I've read and that it's
fewer in number than what you've read (golden books don't count) is beyond me.

And if I may, if any of the ones you've read were on spelling and what constitutes a complete or intelligible thought, you don't seem to have didn't pay close attention to them.

The counter side to Appeal to Authority is the Demand for Authority, as in, "Do you have a link which supports that statement."

Are you saying that that, too, is a fallacy? If so, why?
