Default A Christian tells me that the Bible is Just a Book.

A co-worker of mine is a very conservative person (Things George W. is the best thing since sliced bread, and LOOOVEs Rush.)

He's Christian, attends church and Wednesday services, but when we spoke of the bible, I pointed out a contradiction, and he said, "Oh yea, I don't think the bible is perfect. It was just written by people, people who make mistakes."

Wow! I had never expected THAT from THIS person!!

What do you say to a Christian who just doesn't give a damn about his holy book? A Christian that still believes in Jesus, and his preacher in the pulpit?

Anything that I could point to in his book doesn't shake him, because he doesn't believe in it that strongly. But when I ventured that maybe he wasn't really Christian, he got fairly upset with me.

LOL, he has transcended the book with his faith and the Holy Spirit is now in charge, I wouldn't even bother, but I would suggest taking note of his demeanor and really consider if this could truly be a man of God.

Let's see.... He tithes, goes to church, is gracious and kind. And he calls himself a Christian. He also uses his motorcycle club to raise money for the local soup kitchen.

Is there some other test that I'm unaware of?

I've met a couple of xians that were indifferent to biblical inerrancy. Usually they're religion is a cultural thing. Currently, right wing politics is pretty closely tied to xianity. Perhaps this guys religion has more to do with his politics than it does with deep faith.

If you ever get the chance, read the "Andrew Project" by James Taylor. It has a slant on the bible that is quite interesting in which Tayors creation, a cartoon named Andrew, collects Taylor's sayings in a book to try to codify him, then he tries to live according to his interpretations of the codes and stops talking to Taylor directly.

I sorta think there is something to that!

When are you people going to learn that one xian is just as much of a xian as any other xian?

Sincerely,

Goliath

Good, so you realize that the person that you're talking about in the OP is just as much of a xian as you are--no more, no less.

[EDIT: insult removed]

Sincerely,

Goliath

heh. You don't know me very well do you? Before you start flinging stones, maybe you should check your targets?

Point taken. My apologies.

Sincerely,

Goliath

(Although why an atheist would want to associate themselves with a church is honestly beyond me...)
