Not necessarily "good" movies, just moves whose production design/score/cinematography are so enrapturing that the viewer is hard-pressed to pay attention to anything else.

I just saw Zhang Yimou's "Hero", an extravagantly gorgeous film. The costumes, the scenery, and above all the cinematography are so stunning that I wanted to cry watching it. (Also it stars Zhang Ziyi and Maggie Cheung, two of the most beautiful women alive. They don't hurt matters one bit.)

What are your most aesthetically divine films?

The Scent of Green Papaya. The movie is told from the perspective of a little girl who goes to live as a servant in a wealthier household. The girl is fascinated by pretty much everything she sees and hears, and for the most part, so was I.

Tampopo. Lot's of beautiful food on the screen the whole tim. I always make sure I have good foor around to eat after I watch this one.

Ran. Loved the costumes. The battle scenes are earily beautiful (that line is a horrible clich�, but it's applicable here.)

The Mission. The falls, the jungle, and the music. Even the final slaughter is strangely beautiful.

The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly (Widescreen has never looked better before or since, the whole movie is in frame, nothing exists outside of it, logic be damned)

Catch-22 (Visually Stunning, one of the many qualities it doesn't share with the book, but one of the few redeeming ones)

Barry Lyndon (A moving painting, as innovative as cinematography gets. Kubrick made many beautiful films, but while most went far beyond that, beauty was this film's best attribute)

Waking Life (I wish my dreams were half as vivid)

O Brother, Where Art Thou (A horrible region in a horrible era filled with horrible people, but still beautiful. apologies to anyone from Mississippi)

Citizen Kane (What can you say? Every shot is artful)

In the Mood for Love

The gorgeous slow-mo. shots, smooth panning, the music, the interiors, the dresses that become the interiors, and the final scene in Angkor Wat.

Aguirre: The Wrath of God

I love the shots of the monkeys, and the opening. Most of Herzog's films are filled with beauty.

That's all I can think of for now.

How about Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow ? I think every scene in that movie is gorgeous. Well, maybe can exclude the graphic beheadings.

Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien
(translates roughly to "The Future You Wish For")

Ok, it's actually not a movie, but a series. And, well, it's an anime too, but it's the most beautiful story I've ever seen/heard. Short: Girl fancies boy, girl's friend pairs boy with girl, girl and boy fall in love, girl gets brutally hit by car and falls into coma... It's so beautiful... *sniffle* I couldn't stop crying after watching the last episode...

I�ll put in another vote for Sleepy Hollow, and some other Tim Burton films: Batman Returns and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

I'll also include Dead Man, The Thin Red Line and The Piano for their cinematography.
