Default Hatred at Straw Atheist Stereotypes

How can we best convince people who make threads like this one that atheists are not out to hate god or Christians - we just wish to be left alone, pretty much, and not be given the fire-and-brimstone blackmail of hell.

I suppose a side issue would be, "Why do they believe what they do?"

Are they taught to hate?

sometimes I get so hot-headed I keep enjoying the thought of some of those atheists going to Hell
So you dislike the 'love your enemy commandment'?

Is that the same Magus from this board? He really thinks we "hate" something that we don't even think exists?

I liked the part about genetic lostness. We are atheists because of our genetics .

I also liked the part about "scientific mumbo jumbo" and our world "in a calculator."

But what is this "principality of the air?" We are all just puppets of Satan because we believe differently?

I'd guess yes. A lot of people are christian because it was the only choice given to them when they grew up, or they were forced to be at a young age. Some people are naturally prone to violence, others to checkers. Some of these people become christians and some of these people become those christians.

Most likely.

To him and most fundies, disbelief and hate are one and the same.

LOL. In that case, we should blame our parents.

If he doesn't even know the name, he shouldn't be judging us.

That's the gist of it.

Yeah. "Give me a child until the age of six..."

RR is also watching us.

Should we raise the white flag?

Yeah, give Magus a break. It's been a bit of overkill the last few days.

That wasn't my intention. The subject matter was disturbing to me and should be discussed.

I've been an atheist my whole life, so I have no idea what he's going through but he's having a hard time now. Give him some breathing space and see what happens. This way we are just angering and mocking him and it does no one any good.

I'm currently going through the Ten Commandments website, and that guy is a thousand times more hateful, so I see your point of view. And I think it could make for an interesting discussion. But it might be better, imo, if the jumping-off point of the discussion was not something else posted by Magus on another bulletin board.

I wouldn't be surprised if he started feeling a bit paranoid at this point.
