My grandmother believed several times during my childhood that I was possessed by Satan. The ladies at one of the churches she attended came to our house to "investigate" why we were poor. When they got into my room and saw my 200+ book collection, one called "The Evil One" caught one of the women's eyes. They declared that I was possessed because I had satanic literature in my room like Stephen King and Dean Koontz, that you could see the demon lurking behind my eyes which was being strengthened by my listening to music that wasn't gospel.
She believed this shit and tried to give away my books. We got into a physical fight over it and she kept putting her hands on me asking God to heal me from Satan. The woman was and still is a nut. Religion on people like her only serves to make them paranoid, sometimes dangerously so. As I've said before, my family is the #1 reason for my deconversion from Christianity. The ironic thing was that the book that so enraged the church ladies was about a Christian child who defeats a dark deranged old woman who had been killing people for years. So God saves the day in that book. Tangie |

Hmm. There was a case here in NZ two years ago where someone died during an 'exorcism'. It was carried out by the guys parents, their church/cult (Wacko christian offshoot type) reverend guy and a bunch of parishoners. Thankfully they are all now in prison for manslaughter. So sad and frightening at the same time.

I come from a home where everybody is a fundamentalist. They, of course, believe in demons and possession. A couple months after I had told my parents that I was no longer a believer and had basically rejected the idea of a god existing, I was driving in the car with my mom. She popped a Christian CD in that I used to sing to. Well obviously I wasn't going to sing the songs because I don't believe the message of them anymore and I didn't want to give her the false impression that I was "reconverting". So she started crying and said "Krista why don't you sing anymore?" (which is not true btw, I sing all the time, just not Christian songs). So I explained to her that I couldn't sing the words to a song that I thought was utterly ridiculous.
That night while I was sleeping she came into my room and put her hands all over me while praying for god to cast out the demons that stop me from singing. I was soooo scared, I had never seen my mom act so irrational and crazy. |

Superstitious nonsense. And it saddens me to no end. Thankfully, I have never had the unpleasure of waking to screaming tongues and hands all over me. Oh wait....the tongues and hands part sounds alright...*grinnin*. Imagine their surprise if I awakened with an erection... ![]() On second thought, nevermind...*wincing*...they'd probably cut it off. I mean, Jesus never had an erection. It doesn't say he did in the bible. Well, he DID have an erection....they erected him on a cross. I think I better stop now...*nods lots* |
