Religions provide superstructures of meaning for young minds. That is the reason they exist (and survive). Not everyone is capable of a scientific temper.

Crazy argumentation from dowtown US. Hiduism, Buddism , and the long forgotten faith of the Egyptians have lasted far longer than xianity. Hinduism is estimated at about 5000 years. And then I casually pass by the pagan faiths which have been there as long as mankind.
It is basically the same as saying "so many people cannot be wrong" . And of-course we all know that that is wrong . They can and they are. |

don't trust all those numbers on Hinduism. There aren't any good dates on how old it is.

Why did xianity last so long?? Beats me?? One would reasonably think it would already have been a long time on the dustbin of history where it belongs. Most likely it is still there because of its succesfull powerbroking and control capabilities and its collusion with the powers that are. Also it is strongly connected to the west, which has been basically the most aggressive power broker in the world since 2000 years. But it is doomed.

Anyway, even a conservative estimate estimates it at 4000 years at least. The point is: There is no particular meaning in xiuanity having lasted so long. It has been done before, and it will most likely be done again. To put it in the right perspective, xianity's 2000 years means nothing as compared to the age of this planet. Unless of course the dinosaurs where xians in which case, I will shut up. |

I think stuff like the Vedas are sometimes dated at no older than 2000 BC (and it is plausible since no relation has been found between Hinduism and the Indus-Saraswati civilization). The Vedic fellas were nature worshippers anyway who built no temples.
The Mahabharata has been dated by one Planetarium dude in Delhi at 1300 BC from astronomical conjunctions. |
