I've lasted at RR for over a year now, with almost 400 posts (under a different name than here).. that is much longer than most Catholics last there.. In fact, I think I've witnessed more Catholics banned than atheists in my tenure there.. usually for "mocking God."

If you're a non-Christian, they will try to keep you in the apologetics forum.. On several occasions, I've been told not to participate any longer in threads outside of apologetics, but they don't seem to care anymore when I post in the political & breaking news forums. But I really don't spend much time at RR anymore.. the place probably has a higher percentage of certifiable lunatics than the average insane asylum.. and that can get frustrating.

Anyway, my advice if you don't want to get banned is, just don't be an asshole.

Question

Do you think that, when such people deconvert, they look back upon their RR posts and realise how retarded they sound?

Yeah, I've seen some of the Catholic/Protestant debates, and those get heated up at times. Other interesting divisions occur between those who want a literal Genesis and those who see evolution as God's method to create humanity. Tho I can't help wondering how if the evolutionists can see Genesis as allegorical, how they can see Revelation as becoming literal?

Mercifully_Saved and A_American_Saint are some of the funniest posters over there right now.

I hope so...

Over a period, I watched someone on RR go through the process of deconversion. She started out a saved, born-again christian who was genuinely seeking the truth, and through her discussions in apologetics, she eventually deconverted . . . and was promptly banned.

Yeah, it's no wonder they keep the Apologetics section to members-only. Don't want all the first-time, baby Christians, to get any bad ideas.

I'm not familiar with A_American_Saint, but Mercifully_Saved is pretty nutty... my all time favorite, though, is probably Stevangelist.. that guy starts thread after thread of the most asinine questions I've ever seen.

...Saint recently started a thread about why a literal interpretation of Genesis was necessary to be a proper Christian.

You're right about Steveangelist. His questions are awesome.

Yes. Maybe you should point out how in the Bible God uses 'a' before consonants and 'an' before vowels, and on that basis, accuse him of being apostate and unbiblical.

Ask him if he is living according to the Word or not! :devil3:

Sparklecat?

She also fell in love and went to Scotland to be with MartinM, perhaps the most prominent atheist RR-er at the time. Boy, I wish I could see the look on some of their faces when they found out.

For my money, Rom831 (who I haven't seen post in a while) was the #1 RR poster all time:

[Replying to 'you know absolutely nothing about what causes a supernova']

"Apparently we know more than you. GOD causes them. If it weren't for God, you would have none. I dare to say that what the process God uses to do this is so far more complex than you or any group of your scientists can contemplate that your pitiful 'knowledge' on the subject is humorous at best."

"You do not know if dinos could breathe fire. You have not seen a living dino and cannot see if it does or not. However, we have the eyewitness account of those who did see dinos (the term was dragon then though) and say they did breathe fire (who knows? Maybe breath hot enough to cause flamables to burst into flames?).

[When someone says he can't be serious about literal 'storehouses of snow' (Job) above the upper atmosphere]

"No, I'm not joking. You say they aren't there because we can't find them. I say we cant find them because they are supernatural. Same as the Space shuttle having never bumped into heaven in orbit. You see the physical result of the supernatural [i.e., snow]."
Quote:
"Because I believe this "hydrological cycle" is what we physically can observe of snow but there is a supernatural, yet required element we cannot observe as well."
Quote:
"Oh my heck, I cannot believe you posted this same garbage yet again!!! For the umpteenth time, I AGREE there was a solid dome of water [over the Earth, as the Bible and ancient Babylonian cosmology describes]... Get it?"
Quote:
"How is it [creating a seemingly old universe] a deception when God tells us He did it? A deception would be to do something and ty to decieve someone into believing you did it another way. But God tells us exactly how and when He did it.

"And you still dont seem to understand that I do not accept YOUR opinion that humans are primates. Instead I accept God's opinion that humans, although created by the same creator hence the similarities, are God's special creation and seperate from primates."

It absolutely dumbfounds me where some people are so worried about outside things like their cats, or this native in the wilderness [who never heard of Christianity], that they would choose an eternity in hell for it."

"But simply reproducing lowers that originsm's chance of survival by increasing competition. So natural selection would favor those things that did not reproduce and therefore did not create competition for survival."

Science says some fish eventually evolved into some frog. From there it eventually evolved into a land creature and into a lizard... This is secular science's view, not mine. And yet you say that for me to ask that you actually evolve something like this to show things do so evolve is 'preposterous'???"

But before you do [explain evolution], remember, according to occam's razor, you have to make it simpler and shorter than "God spoke it and it was done". So, you got to beat 7 words."

"The bible says the earth is fixed and not moveable. It does not say stationary. Can you move it? Push real hard and see."
And my all-time favorite:

"Sorry, my science isn't sloppy enough to just make a wild claim about something which I cannot know."
