Default So, anyone share their faith with me?

I renounced links with the Christianity board I posted on because I felt it was counter productive for me to engage with fundamentalists .. they certainly weren't all fundies and I had a lot of friends there, but enough were that I felt that being there was a negative experience for me.

So. I'm an agnostic or you might call me a weak atheist. I don't really feel, deep down, that there's a God, but often I would like there to be. And I really don't want to entirely cut ties with theists.... I just don't want to be around theists who make me angry anymore.

Any Christians here wanna talk to me about their faith? I might not agree and I might debate but I won't mock . I like to hear how things look to other people, and why they believe what they do.

(please don't preach Creationism to me though or I might just explode).

I'd be up for that. I'm guessing you want a more of a why I believe, and maybe a what (beyond the essentials) I believe? Would you want me to share with you and the board (i.e., posting here), or just you (i.e., email)? Of course, if it's the latter just email me, of course :-).

I'd post more, but I gotta go to class soon, so I'll just wait for you to get back.

Howdy, Moose. I can relate to you not wanting to post on any Christian boards; my own responses to just reading most of them have been some combination of , , , , with an occasional touch of :rolling: thrown in.

Ever since I started posting on the net, I've named myself an atheist/pantheist. I've posted this list of theads where I discussed it many times; if you want to talk about it after reading some of them, just ask.

Similarities of atheism and pantheism
The divine You
Pantheism opposed to atheism?
Pantheism vs. atheism (lecture on Zen)
Pantheism, and doing quantum mechanics in Chinese
Pantheism vs. naturalism- and discussing it in English
From Relevance of evidence for God
The monist problem of evil- my last post on this thread is one of my best ever.
The spirituality of atheists
Robert Ingersoll, pantheist.

Okay, I'll do it here, Moose! I gotta leave again soon, so I'll try to have something churned out before I go to bed tonight...er, tommorrow morning ;-). Peace out!

I've started, but it's taking a little longer than I thought, and I just got to a point where I couldn't write anymore because I'm too tired (the beer didn't help)...so I'll have my post done sometime in the morning or afternoon. I'd post what I have, but I can't bear to not complete thoughts. Sorry for the delay!

edit: whoops! I just realized that my post could be misinterpreted to mean that I was typing up the sharing of my faith while drunk! I only had one beer. But it was already late, so it definitely didn't contribute to my ability to stay up later :-).

Howdy! I write about this stuff a lot; see the Seebs' Intellectually Honest Religion thread.

Here's a series of links to posts on my blog which I wrote on this topic. I posted them in the above thread. Most were originally written for General Apologetics.

Also, if you're curious about religion, read Real Live Preacher. You don't have to agree with him about anything to enjoy his writing. (Actually, not so; you have to agree with him on the meanings of many English words, or you are unlikely to get much out of it.)

A definition is the obituary of an idea
The guy with the crutches
Understanding agnosticism
Thoughts of a Christian agnostic
Deus Domesticus
What is salvation, anyway?
Do you deserve to be loved? Who cares!
How, then, shall we live?
What if it were all true?
Why am I even here?

Okay, I have a question. I would like, sometimes, for there to be a God but whenever I think about it, it seems to me to be logically impossible for a number of reasons. One main reason is that there is virtually no evidence, as far as I can see, for the existence of Jesus of Nazareth, let alone His divinity. How is it possible to surmount this? Does it not bother you that there is no evidence, or do you feel that there IS evidence? HOW much evidence is enough?

Well for starts there is the great sacred Toad of the Tundra. There actually is a tiny bit of proof that this sacred entity does indeed exist.

Or is that just one more form of escapism?
