Her chronology is based on "refracted memory." It's more cultural anthropology than history.

It seems likely to me that April has selected a very early date for the "Kernal" of the gThomas in order to present the non-conservative argument that the "Kernal" of the gThomas predates the sayings in the gospels themselves. Or to put it another way, that the "sayings" in the new testament were drawn from "Gnostic sources" which pre-existed the authorship of the gospels. It would appear therefore that the refutation of the "slur" of "conservative" employs the non-conservative position of assigning an earlier chronology --- and thus priority --- to the "KERNAL" of a non-canonical tractate.

Perhaps, though it is convoluted and misses the most simple and therefore most likely, possibility.
