I've always wondered... how does Jesus decide who wins when devout Christians from two opposing teams ask him to lead their team to victory? And please don't say "dice" -- Einstein has already addressed this.

Not necessarily that stupid. While I agree thanking a ficticious character is a little wacky. A person is not necessarily stupid to channel their stress into a mentally constructed support system. Especially when nobody else is immediately on hand.

While I'm sure your cousin is taking the thanking Jesus thing too far in reference to her passing exams, would it be any better if she thanked her mental fortitude that Jesus is a representative of; "Thank you my mental fortitude, praise be my fortitude!"

I'm, sorry but I totally disagree with you. These people believe that jesus helped them and they repeated the mantra with every winning hand, just not when they had gone all in and lost. Maybe jesus was too busy helping some football players and didn't get to this lady in time...

Yeah, these people ARE stupid.

Don't be sorry. I would go mad if everyone agreed with me.

Yes, they believe that Jesus helped them and they may repeat the mantra everytime they win. But their belief does not exclude the fact that their belief and mantra is merely part of a personal emotional support system. The fact you never see then thank Jesus for losing suggests the support is required only in attaining goals, which every human needs in one or another to achieve when faced with obstacles greater than their self-perceived ability.

That presupposes their belief and not the nature of the situation is true.

I tend to agree, but for other reasons.

Unfortunately, yes. We've got our work cut out for us, that's for sure.

But how would you know who wins? You have to still have the competition to see who god loves best.

Did the dogs utter any of the same appreciative sentiments?

It is not stupid. The event for which thanks is given was pretty much random chance. Therefore the only person who could be thanked is one who does not exist.

No, we could just convene a college of Cardinals. That's how God tells us who he loves for pope
