Some atheists who post here go beyond the denial of G-d and appear to actually hate G-d or the idea of G-d. I feel quite a bit of hatred being expressed in some people's postings - mainly towards christians. There seems to be more tolerence for any other expressed system over christianity. What gives?

Also, most of the posters here are from predominantly Christian countries. You probably shouldn't mistake hatred or dislike for the system with the actual deity the system revolves around. I detest the corruption and hypocricy in Christianity (as with any religion), but my animosity is directed at the religion and the many negative societal influences it has, not what I think is a fictional and imaginary deity. |

I dunno, why do people spell "god" as "G-d"? It seems like a Jewish thing that is the newest Christian fad...
Seriously, I can't speak for anyone but myself. For me, it stems from the fact that religion seems the most obvious cause when it comes to making good people do bad things. The whole god concept has caused far, far too much trouble in the past and continues to do so until this very day. While I recognize that there are other reasons that people treat each other badly, removal of the particular excuse religion provides would be greatly beneficial to our species as a whole. Edited to add: So for myself, it's religion I'm angry at, not some god for which I don't hold a belief. |

I don't hate this G-d fellow. Or his brother, God. I have to admit, though, I'm not real fond of gnomes. They get on my nerves....

I think you are confusing expressions of disgust and sarcasm with hatred. E.g., the whole idea of god seems childish to me, so when discussing it I sometimes speak sarcastically. If you intrepret this as hatred, that's YOUR interpretation. I find the idea disgusting that the god of the bible could actually exist - not to mention ridiculous. Again, if you think this is hatred, that's YOUR interpretation. |

Which god concept are you referring to? Some are a bit more moral and easier to like than others.

I do, however, hate certain doctrines... Like eternal hell, annihilation and such like. These teachings nearly drove me into a nutter. I also think they are responsible for a great deal of man's inhumanity to man through the ages. Even Jesus said "as a man thinks, so is he." |

I don't hate God either .. I just find it impossible to believe in Him. I do find some Christian teachings unfair but I don't hate them, or Chrisitans either for that matter.

I don't hate your deity any more than I hate Santa Claus. What people do in the name of your deity is another matter.
As for special animosity toward Christianity, imagine that you live in a country that meets the following description. Most people in the country believe fervently in the horoscope column in the newspaper. Not only do they base their lives on that column, but they also take it for granted that you do as well. When they find out that you don't, they become hostile and attempt to get you to accept the "truth" of the newspaper horoscope column. Many people want the newspaper horoscope column taught as the truth, not just in the horoscope meeting halls, but also in the public schools that your children attend and that your taxes fund. Whenever the newspaper horoscope column says that people of certain star signs (including yours) are inferior, people try to have that judgment written into the country's constitution. The country's leaders make potentially ruinous decisions in accordance with what they read in the newspaper horoscope column. Wouldn't that taint your attitude toward the newspaper horoscope column? |
