it kept comming back to the necessity of god giving us a choice to choose or reject him. and it being like rules in life. we know there are consequences when we steal a car, we know there are consequnces if we disobey god, and god wants us to accept christi in our hearts.
she said that maybe god was gonna give everyone a chance after some 1000 year period she had heard about some people talk where he comes to earth after 1000 years of chaos and lets them again choose or reject him. but she said she wasnt sure what that was all about she said maybe people of other faiths get judged based on how they tried to treat others, or that maybe jesus would give them a chance to accept him after death. I said that I still think sometihng should be done for the people that did know about jesus and didnt choose him, and she kind of agreed but said that it was in the end about their choice. we covered a lot of the same ground that a lot of christians regurgitate. god doesnt want robots etc, this is why its a choice. I say it sounds like a big game of lets see who doesnt screw up and gets to go to heaven. I dont know. I just dont get how they accept that its ok to present humans with such a disastrous choice! |

Are you getting married? I remember doing something with my wife like that before we got married, but neither one of us were really Christian, even then (10 years ago and two children).
Well, I think she has a big problem. The problem is that the punishment for Hitler, Stalin and any other person that commits genocide is the same as the punishment that is given to a moral actor who simply doesn't believe in god. If this doesn't seem disproportionate to her sense of justice, I don't know what would. Old Ygg |

God doesn't want robots, He just wants total obedience. Do you see anything wrong with this?

your girlfriend isnt actually a christian, by definition, if she believes other religions get into heaven based on how they cat towards other people. Technically speaking, that would be blasphemy. Either you believe in God and the story of Jesus christ or you dont get into heaven. Period. Christianity doesnt reward good deeds, it only rewards obedience to that ideal.
you can be the kindest most generous humanitarian on the planet, have saved millions of lived, fed millions of people, etc, and if you do not believe in God and Jesus, you are not going to heaven. The only people who get into heaven without believing in Jesus are those that havent reached the Age of Accountability. I can't define that age, I suppose that is up to god. But ALL people who arent children and dont believe are going to hell, regardless of how good they are. African tribesmen that have never seen a white man are hell bound, buddhists are hell bound, eskimos are hell bound, according to christianity. That is, if you believe all that jive, which I dont. you are right, god doesnt want robots. And he sure as hell doesnt want reasonable thinkers! I forget who said it, but only sheep need a shepherd ![]() This 'disatrous choice' only exists if you choose to believe in black and white. There is no choice, no dilemma at all if you dont believe in god or religion in the first place. The only choice you should be making is "what should I believe?' Its an open ended question that you answer foryourself. It is not a like this: " Believe in a) God and get heaven or b) not god and get hell" you are not limited to two choices unless you limit yourself. |

Depends on what kind of heaven it is. The sexless marriageless white-robe-only heaven of the bible doesn't sound too appealing to me, especially if there's going to be nothing to do in it but tell the christian god how wonderful he is ad infinitum and if so many of the people whom I know or love or admire will be eternally tortured in the meantime.

This is even an unwarranted concession. The bible nowhere talks about this "age of accountability" and children automatically going to heaven. At least not that I am aware of... AFAIK, it was invented by good Christian parents to soothe their emotions after loosing a child to death.

See the link in catholicism - this is why various popes burnt books and banned education except for priests - people think things through and get very muddled very quickly.
Now, why might that be - because the peasants are thick or because it was a mess to start with? :devil1: |
