I will get almost all of them used. Although I am coming into some amount of cash, I am by no means rich. The tax return is because I took almost no deductions and the equity is because of the crazy housing market, especially around here.

Then with the imminent housing bubble collapse, combined with the paradigmic confusions and intellectual weaknesses about the Bible of those books, you might want to save the money, or put it into something of more intrinsic value.

I guess I could donate it to the Dean John Burgon society...

And if you really need some books, I might be able to tell you which ones from the DJBS are worthwhile.. Codex B and Its Allies is now fully on the web, too !

As for Moose, yeah, I have seen rlogan's pictures. We have all kinds of animals here, Moose not among them.
Then I'll assume my bookshelves are safe for now.

PS I've got a link to my own pictures in one of rlogan's Lounge threads.

Good reference works and original sources are always a good investment.

Is Migne the best source for the church fathers? Seeing how it is rare and expensive, is there another decent source?
I like a lot of volumes in the French series, Sources chrétiennes. (Of course, the translation is French only, which I do not know, but the original is what we are after anyway.)

Since your Greek trumps your Latin, I would recommend early Greek fathers like Justin Martyr. The Ecclesiastical History of Eusebius would be a great investment. The apostolic fathers are already online in Greek, but not a critical text.

Keep this one for sure.... Another good book for reference is Helmut Koester, Ancient Christian Gospels.

Have you considered commentaries? $999.99 gets you the entire Word Biblical Commentary on CD-ROM at Amazon. WBC is first rate.

I envy you. Books are great.

Ben.

Very cool. Thanks for sharing. Fabulous view, far away from people, I'm envious.

Never seen this site before. Very nice.

I have an English version of Eusebius' HE, a Greek one might be fun.

Cool, thanks. I have liked everything I have read by Koester.

Sheesh! Man, that's a hell of a price. Actually, checking Amazon I see $395 used... There are no reviews or anything on Amazon, could you briefly explain what it is? I do have the Anchor Bible Dictionary, if that is similar in any way.

Yeah, I don't get to buy that many since my GF moved in. All the money goes to paint and lumber now. And the occasional power tool, which I can appreciate.

The WBC is a commentary series, not a dictionary. It comes in 50+ volumes. It is generally conservative in bent (not ultra-conservative by any means; for example, Goldingay defends a Maccabean date for Daniel in that volume), but contains just oodles of useful information. Go to my booklist, toward the end of the page, to find the volumes laid out.

Ben.

Edited to add: That $395.00 price you quote sounds like it is intended for something else, maybe NT only (?). Here is the Amazon link I was referring to.
