Well, well, since nothing is being ruled out by scientists, the possibility of GOD is hard to resist !

As always, it depends what you mean by "god." It's hard to define god in any way that simultaneously enhances the explanatory power of the conventional scientific hypotheses as to cosmological origins and yet vindicates the concept of god elucidated by the major religions.

Sophie, your idea of "nothing" being simply a vacuum is too simplistic. Your vacuum still has dimensions, height, width, depth. Even these, and possibly time, are theorized to have first appeared in the big bang.

Anyway, I hope you keep posting things like this, as your kind of posts probably do far more to push people away from religions and towards rational thinking than any number of rational arguments from atheists. Good job!

Yes it's possible. So? So are the Invisible Pink Unicorns.

With that I say "Well, well, since nothing is being ruled out by scientists, the possibility of INVISIBLE PINK UNICORNS is hard to resist !"

But, since there's no evidence for either, they are scientifically invalid.

And as to "I'm only a small time laborer", if your going to criticise a wide variety of theories, please know what they are and the reasoning behind them. And have actual evidence or reasons for their invalidity.

Gee, you know they only gave me nothing to work on. The rest of the pesky theories have hardly found their way out of the scientific minds.

Ask around, what is the generally accepted theory of creation in the world today, due to it being the most published most talked about theory?

No one will say super symmetric expansionist holey system theory. Most will reply : zee big bang. This is much ado about nothing. . .

He ripped off the cloth and underneath was a glass case with all sorts of tubes extruding with what seemed to be nothing within the glass enclosure. That, exclaimed the scientist, what exactly is it. It is a miniature collider in which I have a compressed a small super string universe almost at plank scale, shrugged the wild haired man. Then he laughed. Then the crowd roared, rocking back and forth in classic fundie style, holding their stomachs and clapping fervently, in seeming endless laughter. 'He told us he was going to make science's God.. but it's just an empty glass HA HA HA HA!!!!'. The wild haired man smiled.

You wouldnt be a scientist by any chance, the brown eyed man asked politely, and winked. 'These rubes gave me all the money and resources I needed to build this little thing, and they have no idea what it's for' he said. Of course they wouldn't believe me even when I told them, and since they were all home schooled and never got a complete science education, they had no idea what I was really working on.'

You crazy fools!', the scientists yelled, and he and his his atheist friend ran full speed out the crowd, as the gathering parted for them. The atheist and the scientist covered their ears to the mocking ha ha ha ha coming from the crowd of fundies, followed microseconds later by a rapid white hot expansion of fresh new spacetime.

Or ~Out There~

Like our old friend Amos, sophie doesn't let reality or rationality stand in the way of a good argument.

The Big Bang Theory does not posit that the universe came from nothing. For example, Hawking's view is that the Big Bang was preceded by a singularity -- a dimensionless "point" compression of all the energy of the universe. The singularity is not a "nothing" -- it is most definitiely a something.

Exclamation

Clutch wins. But here lately, I think we may need a 'So Far Around The Bend That The Bend Can't Be Seen From Here' forum...
