Default Why I am not a Christian

Jesus Christ is a name we're used to hear with respect and pride since we're children. In our childhood, we're taught to pray to him every night, asking protection through the night,we're taught to commemorate his birth every year and we'rev taught to mourn his suffering in the cross every year. We're taught that humankind is still alive thanks to his love and piety. We're taught that without'im our lives are useless, and it was indeed better if we hadn't been born at all, cause lack of faith in Jesus means eternal damnation.

But there are at least two good reasons to a person deny Jesus, and reject his "love" and ignore his "teachings".

First, we don't even know if Jesus really existed. In fact, neither his so-called "followers" know that. Jesus is a complete mystery. There is no exact distinction between FACT and FICTION concerning his name.Yeah, a man called Jesus could really have lived in Galilee at the period related in the bible. There's nothing strange in that. But Jesus is supposed to have made things like multiplying fish, curing blind men, curing possessed men and resuscitating. No man can do such things and no man does such things. So, Jesus is supposed to have been a special man, a man who made miracles and was born from a virgin, not a common man. Once it is impossible to conceive a separation between what is truth and what is fiction concerning Jesus, we have to be agnostic on that issue because thare can't be sureness that the man really existed, so why to give attention and respect to him?

Second, there is the hypocrisy of Christian religion. This religion is supposed to be inspired by a great man who thought of the spirit rather than of the flesh, a man who preached love, justice and equality. But Christianity is not that kind of religion. During the last two thousand years, Christian religion dominated a great part of the world ( mainly Europe and America), but this same world never felt the effects of the love and the equality Jesus talked about. Being ispired by Jesus' teachings didn't prevent Roosevelt to drop atomic bombs on Japan. Being inspired by Jesus' love didn't prevent Inquisition to burn "heretics" at the stake. Being inspired by Jesus' sense of justice didn't prevent Spanish conquerors to massacrate American indians. Being inspired by Jesus' sense of equality didn't prevent British Empire to enrich thanks to exploitation of America and to African slaves. So, Chriatianity is a hypocritical religion, a falsehood which has deceived millions and millions of people with heavenly promises but which has nothing to do with reality. Most Christians ( of course, every rule has exceptions) don't give a damn to love anyone. They simply use their faith as an excuse to not see life as it really is. They are materialist, they are hypocritical, and they want to judge us as they had that right. So, I have no fear of saying: Christianity is a farce, a great and stupid farce.

Despite these two good reaons to not be a Christian, there is the greatest lie that ever was told: hell. The ones who do not accept Jesus' love deserve to go to a place where "there is no mercy for the wicked". So, if Jesus really existed and if he really said ( as the gospels assert) that men who didn't follow him deserved to suffer eternally, I think it is fair not to give a damn to such a person, even if he really existed.

I haven't always thought that way. When I was younger ( I am twenty-two now), I'd never dare to say such things about Jesus. I already knew things people talked about'im were absurd, but I still respected the name of him.Today, things are different. I can't even bear the hypocritical speech of his followers. I'm an atheist and I feel sad because the greatest part of humankind can't see that its life is guided by a lie- a lie called Jesus Christ.

My dream is an atheistic world- a world where we could be truly humans, without any appeal to supernatural things, simply being what we are. My dream is a world free from religious hypocrisy. My dream is a world free from men who use the faith of their comrades to enrich. My dream is a world where a man is recognized due to what he IS, not what he BELIEVES. My dream is a world free from hallowed lies, and that's exactly the reason why I am not a Christian.
