I appreciate that, AJ113. However the question you ask in rebuttal, ie, the evidence Magus relies on for his beliefs, is off-topic.

I'm beginning to think the meat of the matter has been cooked dry, all. I don't like locking threads because they've drifted, and I certainly don't want to lock this one which has all in all been of sterling quality, but it looks to me like the active conversations here are tangential at best and would be best served by starting new threads.

What if, my conclusions appear to be ridiculous but are not? Is it bad behavior to stereotype the species as mentally deficient, ignorant, and fundamentally prone to delusion? And then to further stereotype those that believe in the existence of an eternal, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, anthrocentric, entity that created and sustains all that exists, as manifesting one or more of the aforementioned traits to a greater degree than those who do not? Can it be ridicule if, it is not ridiculous?

Drat! Foiled!
I would like Magus to be given the opportunity to reply, though. Can you split it off into a new thread?

In the past 1/2 hour, there have been at least two moderator warnings to stay on topic. Apparently, these warnings are being ignored. I will give the posters the benefit of the doubt, and assume that you were still composing your last posts while the warnings were issued. But one more off topic response, and I will do what Livius is reluctant to do, and close this thread.

Edited to add: Another cross post. I see I was correct about one poster.

Okay y'all. Give me some time to sort out what goes where and split the active discussions off where they can be fruitful.

Majestyk, you get the GRD mod cookie of the day.

AJ113, Heathen Dawn and Magus, split number one is done and I'm quite pleased with the title: The Universe: Well-Preserved or Born Old? Please continue your discussion there.

And for AJ, seebs and Biff, we have Proof, Faith and Fact.

Everyone, pay no mind to the little snippets and cross-posts. It's all been sorted outed now. Upwards and onwards.

Misanthropy is not necessarily bad behavior, although it certainly can be when focused on an individual or phrased acidically enough to qualify as acrimonious or inflammatory.

That is actually the subject of another GRD thread right now, and it has been the subject of many a past thread as well. Is it bad behavior? Again, that depends on word choice, approach, attitude, but the subject itself is not bad behavior so much as bad reasoning. Strictly imo, of course.

I think anything can be ridiculed. Ridicule can be valuable, as in the case of satire, dignity and brilliance of its target notwithstanding. Or it can be petty, distracting or mean. It all depends on your goals, what you hope to achieve with the discussion.

I couldn't care less whether you think insulting Magus55 is OK; it isn't.
Oh, and BTW, all I do is debunk your claims according to logic.

ROFL!
Yet you get all upset if it seems your ridiculous claims are being ridiculed ---- even if they're only being logically demonstrated as false.

:boohoo:
You've been on SecWeb as long as I have.
You've had time enough to learn.

gurdur, you dont see your "subtle" sarcasm as being a form of ridicule???

I do. Many smileys and dripping tone.

Do you feel that your form doesnt cross some line and if so how do you draw the line.

You have to know that your tone can be infuriating, dont you??

Stones don’t care. Trees don’t care. The universe doesn’t care. Either the universe cares, or it doesn’t. You can’t have both. The universe just is, and it doesn’t care.
uhh, not exactly by saying the universe doesnt care, the option that it could care is there, but the universe doesnt.

Gurdur is correct, the language used points to an uncaring universe which has negative connotations and this of course is unnecessary.
