				 | Survey, part one, jesus was....

I want to capture the current views of who jesus was and which theory is most popular. I was going to submit a poll but a/ I had not worked how to do it [but know now] and b/ i thought it would be a good idea to refine the options so please submit your opinion/answer so it can be included. There will be issues, of course, simply because some 'answers' will overlap and others will general. so far i have refined it to 9 possibles but please be free to offer futher refinements and additions. Jesus [the origins of christianity] was........ for HJers 1. the son of god 2. a sage and wonder worker 3. social revolutionary [peaceful and /or violent] 4. the title of the leader/leaders of a jewish messianic sect [i.e. Essene] for MJers 5. Greek/Judian fertility, solar hybred cult 6. Greek/Judian platonic/logos philosophy 7. Greek/judian mystery cult [aka sublunar god] 8. revolutionary/political social movement [similar to HAMAS] 9. entirely invented by the Roman empire [between 1st-4th cetnury] as you can see just coming up with options is problematic but the point is to get a picture at this moment of beliefs. |

One HJ option isn’t included, and that the idea that he was a preaching itinerant Jewish apocalypticist (PIWA). This isn’t your options #1 & 2 (obviously), it’s not #3 because a PIWA’s main concern was preaching the coming triumphal return of God, and social concerns are a footnote at best, and it’s not #4 because his following during his life need not have been large or organize (it could have been just a few close followers, or even none other than groups gathers to hear yet another PIWApreach). I think it’s important to add this because it’s a view held by many, including many scholars. Also, it’s not too hard to make it a poll. Find out how to do it, or maybe a mod will do it for you. Good poll – have a fun day- Equinox |
