Oh dear, wrong again. Next time you're curious about my position(s) on anything, please PM me and I'll let you know.

I think adultery can be a harmful thing or an understandable and completely harmless action, depending upon the circumstances. Circumstances vary, and what hurts one person may not hurt another.

So is it stupid that God called adultery a sin?

Yes, it is. But then, that's God for you.

Do you postcard, think adultery is acceptable? QoS apparently does.

Repeat after me : under certain circumstances. And do try to check with me before guessing what I think, would you? WWJD?

Magus, all your comments suggest you approve of such things as "pre-crime punishment" (aka Minority Report) or "thought crimes" (aka 1984). I realize this is just an extention of your visualization of your god and his weighing of sin and our free will, but I still fail to see how you see such a society, whether it's god or lawmakers doing the judging by potential future actions, as a fair one to live in. In that light, one thought astray of what's considered "pure", with no action ever, still condemns me to the punishment. So I get punished even if I'm moral enough to restrain myself from carrying out a harmful act on someone. Doesn't make sense...

As it is, sin is different for each and every person.

I just watched the Passion of the Christ, and one particular scene that touched me was Mary as she cried in silent agony and suffering at seeing her son tortured and killed.

I can relate to her, but anyways, the point is.

Jesus was reputed to be sinless, which is why he can die for all our sins. However:

Under an Asian point of view, parents, especially respect to parents, and well...the term in Chinese is shiao4 suin4, it's like loyalty, love, respect toward parents is deemed extremely important. To make your parent suffer and worry endlessly is a great sin.

A model, perfect child, never causes his or her parents worry, but obeys them completely.

Jesus, by getting himself tortured and crucified, has made his mother suffer, and under Asian beliefs, his sin is great. He is not perfect.

So, for my parents, because Jesus isn't perfect, and such a terrible son, they don't deem him to be the son of God.

Interesting, that, isn't it?

Ya know Magus it is perfectly normal for a person to have a sex drive. You don't have to be ashamed of it.

I like how he Magus55 has a tendency to presume how god thinks, feels, and what his opinions are on one hand, and then occasionally trots out the "You can't claim to understand god, no man can understand god!" wagon when it suits him.

I'm pretty sure a perfect being would really not give a crap what anyone else does. Why should it bring him pain, anger, etc, etc, if he is the embodiment of perfection? It shouldn't impact him at all except to make a mental note of it and file it away in his omniscient memory.

Plus, being omniscient...he can..well....kinda see it coming, right? So when I fantasize about what i'd like to do to the new college intern here at work it really shouldn't do much at all...right?

Let's face it. After this many centuries, God must have eavesdropped on trillions of thoughts about sex, atheism, evolution and other naughty things. And he still finds them offensive? Each time he realizes someone is having a sexual fantasy, it bothers him just as much as it did the first time? He should look into growing a skin.

I'll bet that if a god existed, he would not be the hypersensitive prude that his followers make him out to be.

God is immutable and absolute! Beyond space and time! Beyond causality and temporality! He is a mind of infinite perfection and infinite knowledge! His merest contemplations are beyond the ken of mortal comprehension! .....So of course he's horrified and repulsed by the naughtiness of humanity, as any good Infinitely Transcendent Being would be! And no, he can't grow a skin, because that would involve changing, and perfection does not change.....

Prude = Perfect = Divine = Eternity!!!!

:notworthy LOL

Good post and good points Ploggy, though I fear Magus has fled the scene.

If he does return, I would like to know how we are supposed to know what God finds offensive and what he doesn't? And also, why does a perfect God find anything offensive, at all?
