Default What would it take...

What would it take for Christians and others beliefs to start to fade? That is if it’s possible at all? Do you think people will be following Christianity in say, a thousand years? A hundred will the numbers of Christians and religious people be higher or lower?

I would expect that the more common knowledge and obvious the science becomes the less people will believe in supernatural/spiritual/religious things. I do however know that it seems to be a part of the brain so there will always be religions, even in thousands of years when so much is known that religion starts to have no point. This is what I think always.

More specifically, what would it take to debunk the bible for the general population? Or will bring faith and ignorance of facts always prevail?

Secular thinking has been growing in Europe for quite some time.

I think that more critical thinking skills should be taught in schools, that would help.

It would have to be the case that having the propensity to hold Christian beliefs negatively affected one's reproductive success.

Maybe when aliens come to visit.

Xian: Do you guys believe in Jesus Christ?

Alien: What?!? Hell no.

Xian: Do you believe in god?

Alien: No, we know the guy. His name is bob and lives in the quasar nebula, But he is retired. Creating the universe was no joke.

Xian: You mean all christians have been wrong all the time?

Alien: Yup.

Xian: F**K!

One possible idea would be if everyone somehow straightened out the world into as much of a peaceful and truly progressive place as we ever could, but I doubt even that.

Religion is so much based inside the idea of a 'perfect afterlife' that just realizing and completely accepting this limited life in the here and now only, is not that much of a 'selling' point. This can be true especially after being corrupted from hearing about such claimed apparent promises.

Nothing lasts forever.
Our current crop of religions will eventually fade out and our gods end up in the same scrap heap as those of the Sumerians,Babalonians and all the rest.

i think it would go more like this.

ALIEN SPECIES: hello humans, we have returned to check on you, our experiment.

XIANIST: the devil sent you, im going to church to pray for my soul.

It'd more likely going to be:

Xian: Aah! Satan! Billy, get the shotgun!

Aliens: Damn humans! (Cue the Independence Day-style invasion)
