I just got a letter from my mother. She and Dad are trying to link up their ministry with Rick Joiner through some church in Charlotte called "Morningstar". I have no idea who he is or if I should be worried. If he is just your run of the mill fundamentalist pastor I don't care.... as long as he isn't some scam artist like Benny Hinn or some freak like Fred Phelps.

Edit: I found this http://www.pfo.org/r-joyner.htm which seems to put him on a level with a Hinn or Jim Bakker. |

Excuse me, but isn't "Morningstar" one of the titles of Lucifer?

I just went to the Catholic Encylopedia and the first sentence under "Lucifer" reads "The name Lucifer originally denotes the planet Venus, emphasizing its brilliance. The Vulgate employs the word also for "the light of the morning" (Job 11:17), "the signs of the zodiac" (Job 38:32), and "the aurora" (Psalm 109:3)" So that's it then, Venus is the morning star |

Rev 22:16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, [and] the bright and morning star.
Could jesus have a split personality? ![]() |

Isaiah 14:12 also refers to Lucifer as the "bright morning star" (in some versions newer than KJV, KJV says "son of the morning" ).
Milton also uses term Morningstar to refer to Lucifer in Paradise Lost if I remember my English lit class. |

Hello frostymama
Morningstar is a third-wave variety charismatic group, so they are big into prophecy and other such miraculous spiritual gifts such as healing. Of course, charismatic doctrines are becoming popular in Christian circles, so I wouldn't automatically assume all are scam artists (at least not knowingly). Morningstar does have weekend type seminars every year which are rather costly, but that's not unordinary for even non-charismatic Christian groups, or other groups for that matter. *shrug* |

I feel a lot better now. I consider that stuff just general fundiness.
When I was younger my parents got involved in a group that had some pretty scary Xian survivalist types in it. Anytime they tell me they are getting involved with a new pastor/prophet I worry about them getting scammed out of all of their money or pissing off nuts with weapon stockpiles. Thanks for the info. ![]() |
