				 | Parallels between Christianity and Egyptology

Hello everyone I am very happy that I found this wonderful forum! This is my first post. I hope my topic fits in this forum section. I am currently doing a research paper for my Religious Studies class and I was wondering if anyone can help me out a bit. I am very interested in finding more information reguarding parallels between Christianity and Egyptology. Does anyone here have any information about them? Such as Virgin Mary and Isis, Horus and Jesus, and Any journal articles and websites would be greatly appreciated. Also I need help on the historical evidence or proof to my topic. When was Christianity start? When did the Egyptian religion start? I am not very sure what i am trying to look for to support my topic in historically. Thank you very much for your help. |

Welcome to the boards! Unfortunately (or maybe not) you have hit on a hot topic. There is a lot of misinformation out there, and it will take a lot to sort through it. The Egyptian religion is ancient and clearly predates Christianity, which "started" sometime in the first or maybe the second century, depending on which authorities you read. You can read these threads on this board, and google some key terms. Similarities between Jesus and Pagan Gods Tom Harpur - Christian Mythicist The Pagan Christ---Turkel vs. Harpur |

The scholarship that links Egypt and Christianity is not really very sound. Carrier has a good example here that covers a lot of the ground http://www.infidels.org/library/mode...er/graves.html and this covers Egypt specifically http://www.geocities.com/intheword1/..._on_osiris.htm Hope this helps. |
