Default On the topic of killing children...

When God told Abraham to kill Isaac, had God made it clear to Abraham or other people previously that killing was a crime? This was prior to the ten commandments, after all. If so, Abraham deliberately set out to break a god-given law, rather than saying, "But God, you would never ask me to disobey one of your own laws, so I'm not going to do it."

Moreover, whether Abraham knew it was wrong or not, God certainly knew. So since he gave that command and Abraham hastened to obey, even though it was wrong, why do many Christians, in reply to the question, "would you kill your child if God told you to?" say that God would never ask them to do such a thing? God clearly did, in the case of Abraham. And presumably the murder of children was as wrong then as it is now (if those children were members of your tribe, as opposed to being Amalekites). If Abraham's example was followed, Christians should reply that if god tells them to kill children, and they're sure it's god telling them to do so, they will go ahead and prepare to carry out the sentence. After all, as I've been told here before, God can take anyone's life at any time. If he uses a Christian parent as the life-taking method, that's his choice, mysterious ways, etc.
