Ya know... I can't remember where I read it at, so it's entirely possible that I'm wrong about Jerome. However, the version he quotes is slightly different than the one we have today (not by any significant degree though).
I'm familiar with the difference in that version: credebatur esse christum.

Interesting also. Do you have a scholarly source for this claim? It's not my understanding, I have to say, based on Whealey's study of the historiography or the massive review by J. Carleton Paget (I do think most scholars would seem to agree that there is something wrong with the TF, but there agreement seems to end).
